Oliver Giroud delighted after scoring his first goal for Chelsea

Giroud was instrumental in Chelsea’s 3-2 win

With Chelsea 10 points adrift of Champions League qualification, match against Southampton on Saturday was a must win game for them in order to push for the top 4 spot.

But Chelsea were trailing 2-0 after 60 minutes and it was looking like they would succumb to an embarrassing loss to Mark Hughes’ side. Then Antonio Conte brought Giroud in place of Morata and that decision paid off.

Chelsea turned around the game by scoring 3 goals in 10 minutes, Giroud with a brace and Hazard scored another.

The Frenchman was delighted to score first goal for the Blues in the Premier League and admitted that he was keen to prove a point.

“Yeah, obviously I was waiting for it – I tried so many times to put the ball in the back of the net,” Giroud told Sky Sports.

“When you are a striker, you must keep going. I really wanted the team to bounce back in the second half. The beginning was not what we wanted or expected but in football, you always have the opportunity to bounce back.

“We showed great character and team spirit.”

When then asked if he felt he had something to prove to his critics, Giroud replied: “Yeah. I used to say football is an everlasting, new beginning. You must always push yourself.

“The most important thing is to show some character. I have been through difficulties in my career, other times I tried to come back stronger. And it happened today.

“The second goal… the most important thing is even if you concede one or two you never give up.

“I’m very proud of what we did today.

“When I came on, I said to Eden to keep believing. I didn’t tell him we were going to score, but I believed after the first goal we scored. It’s very nice for the team.”

Chelsea are now 7 points behind Tottenham, after they were defeated by Manchester City. They will again face Southampton in the FA Cup semi-finals in the coming weekend, the only chance of them winning a silverware this season.

West Ham wants to sign Danny Drinkwater

Drinkwater could leave Chelsea this summer

Danny Drinkwater was one of the summer signings last year by Chelsea from Leicester City and was brought to re-establish his Premier League-winning midfield partnership with Kanté.

But Drinkwater is growing frustrated at his bit-part role at Chelsea under Antonio Conte and will consider his future at the end of the season after finding opportunities increasingly limited.

The England midfielder was bought for £35 million on deadline day in August having made clear his desire to move. He had even submitted a transfer request to force through the deal, only to succumb to a calf injury on his arrival.

He was unable to play at all until the end of October and, having endured other niggling injuries and illness in the period since, has made only five Premier League starts. Cesc Fabregas, N’Golo Kante and Tiémoué Bakayoko are preferred ahead of him by the Italian. His last appearance came against Manchester City 5 weeks ago.

With Conte likely to leave at the end of the season and the Blues targeting Nice midfielder Jean Micheal Seri, Drinkwater could seek a move away this summer.

West Ham are interested in signing Drinkwater reports The Sun. They report that the midfielder could be a realistic signing should West Ham nab Leicester’s head of recruitment Eduardo Macia.

The Hammers are understood to be keen on making Macia their director of football as they plan a major overhaul of the club.

Abramovich is determined to bring Marco Asensio

Since Marco Asensio made his debut for Real Madrid in 2016, he has burst onto the scene in La Liga. With his impressive performances, he managed to established himself as a starter for the team and benching Gareth Bale and Isco in many games.

The 21 year is one of the hottest prospects in the league, scoring 10 goals and providing 4 assists in 44 appearances. But his progress has stalled in recent months with just scoring 3 goals since mid November.

Courtois contract expires next summer

Thibaut Courtois has been one of the most important players for the Chelsea since he returned to them from Atletico Madrid. Since then he has won two Premier League titles with the Blues.

Courtious has been linked with a move away this summer with Real Madrid showing interest in him, as they are looking for a long term replacement for Keylor Navas. His contract is set to expire next summer and has yet to sign a new contract with Chelsea.

But according to RMC Sport, PSG also have the Belgium international on their shortlist and have already held talks with the goalkeeper’s entourage. And according to reports, the 25 year is also very interested to join the French Giants this summer as Chelsea are on the verge of missing Champions League next season.

But Chelsea are not willing to let go of the Belgian this summer and hoping he will sign a new contract extension. But if a deal doesn’t go through, the Blues are reportedly willing to let his contract run down to the end of next season rather than let him go this summer.

Courtois speaking about his contract situation at Chelsea last month, he told Sporza:

‘I have one year left on my contract and feel good at Chelsea.

At the end of the season we will sit down together. I live there quietly and know that I will be at Chelsea next year as well.

‘If I go to the World Cup with a clear idea, sign or wait another year, my mind will be clear at the World Cup.’

Desailly hopes Conte stays at the club next season

Chelsea are struggling this season after winning the Premier League last season. They are currently at 5th position and on the verge of missing Champions League next season.

Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly believes there will be a clear out this summer as Chelsea would like to rebuild. He also thinks selling Eden Hazard will benefit the Blues, with the funds brought in allowing them to invest in other players.

Hazard has been the main man for Chelsea for last couple of seasons but has been linked with a big money move to European giants Real Madrid and PSG.

Desailly told the Daily Mail: “[Roman] Abramovich is passionate and he will be disappointed [at missing out on Champions League] but they will still be able to get some good players.

“If tomorrow you sell Hazard, you can sign another three players who can step up.

“And Willian, for example, is brilliant but he’s just one of those players. He can lift his level and bring a new dimension and become another first-class player.”

Desailly hopes there is no more changes in the dugout as Chelsea have made 12 coaching alterations during Abramovich’s time at the helm. Antonio Conte has also been linked with a move away but many consider him the right man for the job.

Desailly said: “What was working last season with Conte cannot suddenly not work this season.

“Before they’ve changed the coach, and kept the players. This time they should keep the coach and look to move four to five players on.

“Your best players’ performances have dropped and Chelsea did not get the correct players with the correct strengths or another top player in the summer.

“Players like [Victor] Moses and [Marcos] Alonso played a magnificent season last year but they were in need of support this year.

“It’s been a collective failure at Chelsea this season. I don’t think the situation that Chelsea are in is Conte’s fault – you must give him that season.”

Roman Abramovich wants Alvaro Morata to stay at Chelsea

Morata has been linked with a move away this summer

Alvaro Morata was signed by Chelsea from Real Madrid for a record transfer fee of £60 million last summer, to fill the sizable boot of Diego Costa. Though Chelsea’s primary target was Romelu Lukaku, who joined Manchester United .

Morata has endured a frustrating time at Stamford Bridge over the course of the season. Despite a blistering start to his Chelsea career with eight goals in his first seven games, the striker has only netted two goals for the club since the Boxing Day.

His back injury and arrival of Oliver Giroud from Arsenal during the January transfer window also didn’t help his situation.

The 25 year old was also dropped from Spain National squad during the International break due to his run of poor form.

According to reports, he could leave Chelsea during the summer and is already linked with his former club Juventus. They are interested to bring him back to Italy, after he left them in 2016 when Real Madrid activated his buy out clause. He enjoyed a successful period with them from 2014-2016.

According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, as translated by Sport Witness, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and director Granovskaia still see a future for the Spanish international at Stamford Bridge. Both of them are keen to keep the forward next season and believes that he will rediscover his form.

Willian wants something to change at Chelsea next season

The Blues are on the verge of missing Champions League

Willian has been one of the most constant players for Chelsea for the last three years. Though it’s funny when he performs at his best, Chelsea seems to struggle and vice versa. In 2015-2016,the Brazilian was voted Chelsea’s Player of The Year.

Though there is no doubt in his talents. Willian may not dazzle as much as his more fanciful teammates at club or national team level likes of Hazard and Neymar, but rare is the game where he doesn’t display obvious effort, determination, and commitment to the cause.

This season has been his best ever tally with 13 goals and 11 assists in 48 appearances but its not looking good for Chelsea, as they are on the verge of missing Champions League next season and FA Cup only possible silverware.

He wants something to change next season so that it doesn’t happen again. According to Mirror:

“Yes. I think that hurt a little bit. It doesn’t matter the team, to lose isn’t good. I think something will have to change for next season.

“If a team like Chelsea wants to reach the top four we can’t draw against West Ham at home. We can’t lose against Tottenham at home. Of course we still have the FA Cup to fight for. We still have six games to fight for. But we have to change something.”

“For me, Chelsea will always be Chelsea. It doesn’t matter where we are. The name is too big.

“Of course, the football has to improve. Chelsea always want to win titles and to see these teams in front of us is difficult. We want to be there. But Chelsea has won everything in the last 15 years. The club is one of the biggest in the world now.

“That’s why the pressure is coming – because Chelsea has to be top four, fighting for the title, fighting to do something special every season.”

“I don’t like to switch on the TV and see someone saying, ‘Willian has played very bad’. This is hard. But the big players, they respond on the pitch. Not with words or something like that. In football you always have to give your answer on the pitch.”

Chelsea almost signed Dzeko

Chelsea wanted to bring Roma’s Edin Dzeko during the Winter transfer window but the forward refused them. The Blues ultimately signed Oliver Giroud from Arsenal.

Roma completed an incredible comeback against Barcelona in the Champions League and qualified for the Semi-Finals, first time since 1983-1984 season. Dzeko played a key part in the game as he scored the opening goal and won a penalty for the team.

After the match The Bosnian stated, he and the club is happy that they rejected Chelsea as he helped the Italian giants to reach the Semi-Finals.

“It wasn’t easy, but I stayed here and am very happy to be here,” he said. “I think the club is glad, too. Let’s not talk about [the move]. Money doesn’t matter

“This was the best, but even better may well be yet to come. It proved we can play against anyone, as Barcelona are such a strong side. We put three goals past them and could have had more.

“I have never seen Barcelona struggle so much. We pressed them constantly from the first minute.”

Asked how far Roma can go, Dzeko responded: “To the final, hopefully.

“Nobody believed in us and we have reached the semi-final for the first time in the Champions League [era]. I am very happy that I can watch the draw for the semi-finals and see my Roma there.”
