Top five players Chelsea should sign this summer in 2019? Who are the Top five Chelsea summer targets? Who are the Chelsea summer transfer targets? Chelsea will need to sign a number of players this summer in order to compete with Manchester City next season. So who should be the Chelsea summer transfer targets 2019? Here we look at the Top Five Players Chelsea should sign this summer in 2019.
Chelsea have had a disappointing 2018/19 season so far and are likely to miss out on a Champions League top-four spot. So which players should Chelsea sign this summer in 2018? Well read on to find out.
Note: I have selected players that are realistically attainable. Of course I would put players like Lionel Messi if I wanted to, but I’ve selected players that Chelsea could actually sign (and have been linked to in the past). I’ve also considered positions that need strengthening the most such as wing-backs. So here are the Players Chelsea should sign this summer 2019.
Top five players Chelsea should sign this summer in 2018
5.Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli)
Kalidou Koulibaly is one of the top centre-backs in the world right now. The big Napoli defender is strong, tall, and good on the ball, and can play out from the back. That’s exactly what Chelsea need in a centre-back and with Gary Cahill ageing, and David Luiz not in the first-team picture, Chelsea may want to upgrade on one of their centre-backs. Young Dane Andreas Christensen has been good in the middle of the back three, but he’s made several costly mistakes. Koulibaly would be perfect in Sarri’s four man back system
Chelsea would have to pay upwards of £90 million though, and with the amount of centre-backs we have right now, plus Kurt Zouma who is on loan at Everton, we may not actually need him. But, if one of either David Luiz or Gary Cahill leaves, Chelsea should sign him up. Chelsea have been linked with the Napoli man in the past, but failed to put in a big enough bid for him.
4. Djibril Sidibe, Monaco, (Right wing-back)
It’s obvious that Chelsea are in need of better wing-backs right now. Yes Chelsea signed Emerson and Davide Zappacosta to provide cover last season, but they simply haven’t proven themselves. While first-team wing-back Victor Moses has been sent out on loan and Marcos Alonso is slower than ever.
Sidibe is a highly rated right wing-back at Monaco, and even though we signed a total flop from Monaco last to last year in Tiemoue Bakayoko, I don’t think Sidibe would be a flop at Chelsea. The wing-back is fast, strong and athletic, which are all the attributes Chelsea love in a player. Meanwhile, he’s not too young at 26-years-old so he has experience, while he’s not too old either. Sign him up!
3. Leon Bailey, Bayer Leverkusen, (Winger)
Leon Bailey is a hot prospect in Europe right now. The Jamaican born winger has been scoring magnificent goals for Bayer Leverkusen and is touted to become a future world star.
The 20-year-old can play on either the left or the right of a front three, and he often cuts inside on his stronger foot to shoot.Bailey has scored nine goals and made six assists in the Bundesliga this season and at 21, that’s an impressive feat.
The winger has often been linked with Chelsea in the past, and Bailey is even allegedly a Chelsea supporter! It should be easy then to sign him, plus he wouldn’t break the bank either.
2. Marco Asensio, Real Madrid (attacking midfielder)
Marco Asensio is set to become the next big star (if he already isn’t) and has attracted the names of some big clubs. But most notably, Chelsea have been linked with the Real Madrid star in a possible swap deal with Eden Hazard.
Now, in an ideal world, I’d love for Eden Hazard to stay at Chelsea and in addition, we would sign Asensio. But that’s probably not going to happen. So if we are to lose Eden Hazard next season, I would want Asensio at the top of the list as his replacement.
The 23-year-old has already proven himself as a starter for Real Madrid in La Liga. That doesn’t sound that great does it, but think of his age? But Asensio has only started 14 games this season in the La Liga. Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane doesn’t see Asensio as a locked on starter (and with so many wingers on the platter) you can’t blame him. But Asensio reportedly wants more first-team football and is open to a move away from the club.
1. Mauro Icardi, Inter Milan, (Striker)
Mauro Icardi has been in crazy form this season for Inter Milan and has been scoring goals for fun. He has scored at almost one goal per game in the Serie A. That is a ridiculous return for a striker in a league that’s notorious for being hard to score in.
Chelsea have lacked a real goal-scorer this season after losing Diego Costa. We tried replacing him with Alvaro Morata but that hasn’t exactly gone to plan with Morata failing abysmally. Morata is better as a secondary striker and has now been loaned out to Atletico Madrid. Gonzalo Higuain is old and Icardi could be the solution.
Icardi wouldn’t come cheap though as he has a £97.8 million release clause.
