Lampard: We are in a battle

Frank Lampard has urged his Chelsea team not to lose sight of their goal this season.

The Blues are in a top four battle this season and are competing with the likes of Manchester United, Wolves and Sheffield to finish in the top 4. As of this moment, they are 5 points clear of Manchester United. However, there are still 7 more games to go this season.

“It’s a big three points for us but we’re in a battle here,” Lampard was quoted as saying by the Press Association.

“It’s not going to be decided by that game. It’s a nice result that will give us confidence but the consistency that we produce to the end of the season is what will define us this year if we are to get the finish we want to have.

“I’m not getting carried away. We can get better. We can be better on the ball.

“We can have more possession. It’s one of the only games in which we didn’t have the lion’s share of possession but we have to accept that and be happy with the result.

“We had to work a lot off the ball, as you do with Pep Guardiola teams and Manchester City. The way the lads showed the work ethic and focus throughout the game, how dangerous we were; we had the better chances in the game.”

Lampard applauds Pep Guardiola and his team after beating them 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were deserving winners after beating Guardiola’s side 2-1 at Stamford Bridge which led to Liverpool winning their first Premiere League after 30 years.

The Blues boss deemed Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola as ‘world-class’ and also admits that City plays the best football of any team. He knows that Chelsea has to go a long way to match the levels of these two sides.

“It was tough,” Lampard told BT Sport.

“When you come up against a team of Manchester City’s quality – in individuals, in the way they’re coached – for me, they’re the best, in terms of the way they play football, so great to watch.

“Pep and Jurgen Klopp are different class, hence why Liverpool are winning the league tonight!

“We had to work every bit that we could to try and get a result. We had to work defensively so, so hard and we did it, and we created the better chances on the night.”

“We’ve had the ball more than any team I think, regularly this season in games, the bigger percentage.

“But today against Manchester City when they play a false nine and they’ve got bodies in midfield, it’s really tough so we had to tweak a little bit at half-time, suffer in the first 20 minutes of the second half, but I think we deserved the win on chances.”

Christian Pulisic tells Chelsea fans to get excited about Timo Werner’s arrival.

Werner, 24, signed a five year contract with the Blues for £47.6m last week.

Timo Werner managed to scored 26 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig this season.

Chelsea played their first match on Sunday since the Premiere League return. Pulisic who had been out with injury since January made an instant impact and scored against Aston Villa on his return.

“If you look at his stats alone this year you should be very excited. Obviously I’ve seen him play and played against him – he’s very quick, very dynamic and he’s a good goalscorer,” said Pulisic.

“I enjoy playing with and against good players because that’s what elevates my game.

“When you’re playing at the highest level there’s always going to be competition within teams. I’ve had it before and I’ll always have it in my career.

“It just helps me get better. I can learn things from them and they can learn things from me, I think it’s good to have in a team.”

Chelsea and Manchester City played out the most Premier League-ish game on Thursday night.

It ended with the Blues taking home all 3 points but Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will be a proud man of his young team’s achievement.

It was tough,” Lampard told BT Sport.

“When you come up against a team of Manchester City’s quality – in individuals, in the way they’re coached – for me, they’re the best, in terms of the way they play football, so great to watch.

“Pep and Jurgen Klopp are different class, hence why Liverpool are winning the league tonight!

“You always try and limit your errors, which there have been issues with at times, and you always try and capitalise [on your opponents’] but when you’ve got pace and you’ve got players like Christian who can get away from people and drive with the ball, you can do that,” Lampard said.

“Olly [Olivier Giroud] has been great for us but when you think about attributes and I knew we were suffering and we needed an outlet.

“Maybe to press a bit higher up the pitch, it’s a lot of work we’re asking for from the players but at any moment you need your subs and you need people to come on fresh and bring energy to the team and I thought Tammy did that.”

“We had to work every bit that we could to try and get a result. We had to work defensively so, so hard and we did it, and we created the better chances on the night.”

BREAKING: Pedro Rodriguez Agrees To Join AS Roma On A Two-Year Deal

BREAKING: Pedro Rodriguez Agrees To Join AS Roma On A Two-Year Deal

Pedro has agreed a deal to join AS Roma on a free transfer, reports Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea were successful in extending the 32-year-old’s contract until the season end after which he is free to move elsewhere.

Football Italia claims that Pedro’s deal with the Serie A outfit is set to last for two seasons worth €3.5m-a-year. He was signed from Barcelona in 2015 in a deal worth £19m. He has appeared in over 200 games for Chelsea, racking up 43 goals and 28 assists so far.

Frank Lampard has allowed him to feature in just 9 Premier League games this season, marking a fitting end to his time at England. Pedro could still come handy in the race for top four this season as games come thick and fast through the next month. He was mostly used as a backup option at West London but proved to be a capable one.

Now, news outlets will be focused on Willian’s next club as the Brazilian is also set to leave Stamford Bridge after this campaign.

Agent Claims Jorginho Is Too Expensive As Exit Rumours Continue

Agent Claims Jorginho Is Too Expensive As Exit Rumours Continue

Chelsea fans will be happy to know that Jorginho’s chances of leaving this summer are low, according to his agent.

Maurizio Sarri brought him from the Serie A in 2018 for €57 million. Over his two seasons at Chelsea, Jorginho has emerged to be an important player for them.

Frank Lampard has embraced all of the Italian’s weaknesses for the top level of distribution that he brings to the game. Even at 28, he is valued highly by other outfits, especially his former manager, Sarri. Recent reports linked him with a move back to Serie A with Juventus being the likely buyers.

Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos feels like nobody can afford the defensive midfielder. He claims that Jorginho’s value has gone drastically since he arrived in the Premier League. And with the recent worldwide crisis going on, clubs will find it hard to afford him.

In the wake of constant exit rumours, Santos said, “He is now the vice-captain at Chelsea and has amassed a great deal of experience playing in the Champions League and Europa League. I think it’s very unlikely an offer will come in for Jorginho because nobody can afford to make that kind of investment in the market right now.

“Because of the pandemic, nobody knows when we can return to normal or even play with fans in the stadium, so that’s a big problem for the transfer market.”

Chelsea won’t be completely paralyzed without Jorginho in their setup. Lampard has seen the emergence of a young Billy Gilmour who has shown how capable he is in playing the part. Then, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and N’Golo Kante back to fitness, Jorginho can be replaced without needed a new signing.

Frank Lampard Knocks Back At Raheem Sterling For Racial Profiling Comments

Frank Lampard Knocks Back At Raheem Sterling For Racial Profiling Comments

Raheem Sterling has been vocal about the lack of black representation at the coaching level in England.

The Manchester City forward drew comparisons of former England international – Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole to justify his point.

“There’s something like 500 players in the Premier League and a third of them are black and we have no representation in the hierarchy, no representation of us in the coaching staffs,” Sterling said. “There’s Steven Gerrard, your Frank Lampards, you have your Sol Campbells and you have your Ashley Coles.

“All had great careers, all played for England. At the same time, they’ve all respectfully done their coaching badges to coach at the highest level and the two that haven’t been given the right opportunities are the two black former players.”

Lampard was not too fond of Sterling’s comments and explained why they may have been misguided. He said, “What Raheem Sterling has spoken about in the last year or two, he has been brave enough to speak about issues that maybe hadn’t been broached and should have been broached a while before; he deserves huge credit for that.

“I think you could say the same for a real spectrum of Premier League players: Marcus Rashford recently, Jordan Henderson, Troy Deeney, Mark Noble. I don’t want to leave too many out, but I think they are making a great impression of themselves in what they are saying. I think in the actual case of managers, I think he got it, from my point of view, slightly wrong, because it felt like a very casual comparison.

“Because if you compare opportunities and pathways of individual managers, you can compare myself, you can compare Steven, you can compare Sol, who by the way did an incredible job at Macclesfield and the job now at Southend is tough, it’s one all of us would find difficult to do.

“Then you can compare Ashley Cole who finished his career last year with me at Derby, and is working away here (as Chelsea academy coach) with me and doing a great job, and I think he’s going to be successful whatever he wants to do. So, I think it’s very hard to make that comparison from the outside.”

Lampard provides an update on Havertz deal

Frank Lampard has said that Chelsea has not made any bids for Kai Havertz.

The Blues have been strongly linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Havertz but Lampard has downplayed the situation.

Lampard said: “No, no bids have gone in.

“He’s obviously a top player, but I’m certainly not going to comment on other players at other teams.

“And it cannot be our focus. So, nothing to say.”

Lampard’s men have already signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and he was asked about how many more signings were the Blues planning to make in the summer.

“I don’t know, because we have the games we need to complete before the window opens.

“That’s something we’ll broach when it comes around. So for the minute, our only focus can be on the games in hand.”

The boss also expressed his satisfaction after Willian and Pedro extended their short term deals to stay till the end of the season. Lampard has even higher hopes for Willian who he wants to keep at the club beyond this season.

“Yeah we are still talking with the players, and Willian, in particular, we are talking with him,” Lampard said.

“I always felt confident they would remain, they’ve been fantastic professionals for the club, and servants in all senses.

“And when you have that level of professionalism within you, I think it’s a sign that they wanted to stay and see out the season at least.

“So we’ll carry on talking and see.

“But I think everybody’s focus now is on these next games, these individuals themselves and us as a club.”

The Role Antonio Rudiger Played In Recruiting Timo Werner To Chelsea

The Role Antonio Rudiger Played In Recruiting Timo Werner To Chelsea

Chelsea trumped Liverpool to the signing of Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger can take some credit for the move going through.

Other than costing around £45m in transfer fees, it was a giant coup in the eyes of the Blues faithful. Werner was, after all, a highly-coveted forward wanted by many.

Germany international, Rudiger will now have a chance to share the pitch with his international teammate at Stamford Bridge. He revealed exactly the part he had to play in the transfer.

“I did speak to him before because we have known each other for a long time,” Rudiger told Chelsea TV. “We spoke a lot during the lockdown and he told me he was interested in coming to England. Of course, then I did my bit, what I had to do.”

“He’s a really big threat to defenders,” he continued. “RB Leipzig is a more counter-attacking team but in terms of attacking the defensive line, he’s similar to Vardy. He has a lot of pace and if the defender makes a mistake and loses the ball, then he goes!”

When asked about Werner’s personality, Rudiger added, “I would say he’s a quiet, humble guy, always ready to do better. I hope he adapts very quickly when he comes because as we all know this competition is different than others.”

OFFICIAL: Willian And Pedro Sign Contract Extensions

OFFICIAL: Willian And Pedro Sign Contract Extensions

Chelsea have successfully managed to sign Willian and Pedro until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, it was becoming very difficult for football clubs to keep their entire squad through the revised schedule.

Of course, many out-of-contract players are rebelling to sign extensions in order to not jeopardize their future moves. Fortunately for Chelsea, Willian and Pedro have agreed to stay these few extra months. Both players are crucial to Chelsea’s top-four ambitions for the season.

While they are 5 points ahead of their nearest rivals, nothing is guaranteed with eight Premier League games still left to be played this season. Willian has featured in ever single one of the 30 matches played this season while Pedro has featured often as a substitute. Frank Lampard has trusted the veterans with attacking roles while the younger players develop slowly.

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s has picked up an injury right after the lockdown was lifted. Lampard was disappointed in his fitness levels and will need the extra help to cover his position. Chelsea are still in the FA Cup hunt but their Champions League hopes might have ended with the 3-0 defeat against Bayern Munich in the round of 16 first-leg tie.
