Frank Lampard believes Manchester United are Chelsea’s biggest threat in their race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.

The Blues are currently in the 4th position and only one point behind 3rd placed Leicester City.

United,on the other hand, are on an excellent run of form winning five out of five games since football restarted.

Manchester United are only two points behind Chelsea with five Premier League games remaining.

Chelsea are currently holding the Champions League qualification spot but cannot afford to slip up at such a crucial moment, having dropped against West Ham last week.

When asked if United are Chelsea’s biggest threat, Lampard said: From behind? Yeah, they are closest, they are a very strong team, they are in great form for a long period of time.

‘They’ve got really good players, really good individual players.

‘You’ve seen the momentum they’ve gained at this part of the season, individuals across their front three are all scoring lots of goals.

‘They are the biggest threat from behind.

‘But as I’ve said before, this is the Premier League and it looks that way today, it’s how us as a team finishes the season game by game.’

Lampard urged his team to take United’s form as motivation and train hard to seal their spot for Champions League qualification.

‘I’d like to think they are not ignoring what is happening around them. Football has never be on TV more than it has at this time,’ said Lampard.

‘I expect them to buy into that and want to see what results are happening around us. I think that’s pretty much human nature. On a sporting level I think that means you care and want to see what’s happening.

‘And then there has to be a slight switch off and a flip to the fact you focus on yourselves. We can’t control the other games, we’re interested in them but we can certainly control what we do.

‘It can fire you up a little bit, seeing what’s happening around you. But the position we’re in means a lot is in our own hands and that’s the main thing.

‘When we train, when we prepare, when we play, we focus absolutely on putting out the best performance.’

Ross Barkley Warns Premier League Defenders About Christian Pulisic

Christian Pulisic was raging to get back to football and so far, he has not disappointed one bit.

After suffering an injury on New Year’s day, Pulisic was set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines which was seen as another blimp in his debut season.

The American, however, returned with a fire in his belly, securing his position on the right flank. He has now registered 8 goals and 6 assists in 28 appearances for Chelsea pushing Ross Barkley to stress on how big a threat he is in the Premier League.

Barkley said: “Since Christian came back from lockdown he has been on fire. He had a couple of little niggles easier in the season – and he didn’t have much of break last summer before he joined us.

“So maybe this break has done him the world of good. Since he came back he has been blazing. He has been scoring great goals in training, and now he is doing it in matches. He is such a difficult player to defend against because he is so direct. He is so confident. He is always ready to try and take a player on. He is a real problem for defenders.”

Pulisic, who has been compared to former Chelsea hero Eden Hazard, said: “I feel confident in my game right now. Hazard was such an incredible player for Chelsea and is world-class, so I’m not going to compare myself to him. I’m just going to try to be myself, and hope that the fans like that guy.”

Pulisic has taken a bit of time to come into his own at the Stamford Bridge but he is slowly becoming a potent attacking threat. Frank Lampard has already praised the youngster’s directness and ability to take on players on the dribble. Fans can feel optimistic about their Eden Hazard replacement who came in from Dortmund last summer.

Antonio Rudiger Admits He Wants To See Kai Havertz At Chelsea

Antonio Rudiger Admits He Wants To See Kai Havertz At Chelsea

Antonio Rudiger had a big hand in bringing Timo Werner to Chelsea. Perhaps, he might succeed in doing the same with Kai Havertz.

The Blues defender has talked up Havertz as constant links draw him closer to North London.

Bayer Leverkusen has accepted that Havertz might move on this summer with multiple outlets gunning for his signature. Chelsea are currently the favourites but Bayern Munich are equally strong in the chase for midfield reinforcements. Havertz brims with top-level quality, showcasing his talents at various positions under Peter Bosz.

Rudiger wants to see his international teammate in Chelsea colours as he told Sky Germany, “Kai is talented, when I saw him train with the Germany national team I was like, ‘wow!'”

“I would be lying to you if I said I didn’t want him at Chelsea.”

Havertz would no doubt, be an immediate upgrade to Chelsea’s current midfield numbers. He is proven in various positions and could man Chelsea’s creative lineup for years. Reports claim that he would cost anywhere around £80-100 million, based on his current valuation.

Frank Lampard has been greatly boosted by the transfer backup provided to him after just one season in charge. He is prepping a squad based around youth, something which has been missing at Chelsea in the Roman Abramovich-era. Havertz fits the bill perfectly with quality, age and pedigree to back him up.

Let’s hope Rudiger can play super agent and convince the 21-year-old into moving to the Stamford Bridge.

N’Golo Kante Out Injured – Lampard Delivers Update

Frank Lampard has confirmed N’Golo’s Kante hamstring injury.

The midfielder got injured during the Watford game, where Chelsea won 3-0. However, this spells out bad news for the next fixture with Crystal Palace. Kante unfortunately won’t be able to appear for the upcoming Tuesday match.

“He’s got a small hamstring injury so we will see how that goes,” Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said of the French midfielder.

“Hopefully it is not too bad but it comes with the territory of this tight restart and tight run of games.

“A lack of pre-season and we have to rely on the squad. There will be players that come in and can perform for us as well. But it is the same for everybody.”

With the 3-2 West Ham defeat, Lampard was however glad that the team picked itself up – the likes of Pulisic, Mount and Barkley – and managed to jump back up with a win against Watford.

“Today, there was a bit of pressure to get back to fourth and we produced, so get used to that pressure — whatever way it looks — because it’s going to be tough all the way through,” Lampard said.

“Every game is going to be pressure now. West Ham was pressure because we knew we could go third. It’s a different kind of pressure. But it’s still the same it’s how you focus on the game and the job in hand,” Lampard told reporters.

“We can’t get too caught up in what everyone else does at the moment and we did that well tonight. There was no nonsense. It was good, we started bright and carried on and got the small details right at both ends of the pitch.”

Chelsea Shortlist Two Cheaper Alternatives To Ben Chilwell

0
Chelsea Shortlist Two Cheaper Alternatives To Ben Chilwell

The transfer window has been the most exciting for Chelsea fans than any other Premier League club so far.

Frank Lampard has completed two signings in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner and is reportedly going after Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell.

Both players could cost a fortune even if the ongoing health crisis is bound to drop the market price down by a few million. Leicester City are slowly becoming notorious for their exceptional transfer dealings in the Premier League. They made a profit of nearly £80 million in the sale of Harry Maguire to Manchester United last summer and will look to bag a similar amount for Chilwell.

The Foxes value their left-back at the £70-80 million mark. That is an obscene amount to pay for any player but such is the value of English talents within the Premier League. Chilwell has all the makings of a future star – talent, hard-work, age and experience. He has developed very quickly withing the Leicester ranks to become a regular under Brendan Rodgers.

At 23, he could man Chelsea’s backline for years at end. Even Ashley Cole has backed Chelsea to go after the youngster from Milton Keynes but his signing could disrupt the signing of Havertz. The Bayer Leverkusen is viewed as one of the best talents in Europe and signing him would be a priority.

For such a case, Chelsea have prepared two other options they can pursue instead of Chilwell – Alex Telles of FC Porto and Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico. Both are prominent figures in Europe with prior links to Premier League sides. Telles only has 12 more months left on his contract and will be available for far lesser than £75 million.

Tagliafico has racked up 5 goals and 7 assists this season with the Eredivisie winners. Even his signature might not break the bank as a position is likely to be opened up through Emerson’s sale.

Frank Lampard Asks Blues Squad To ‘Embrace’ CL Pressure

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admits that Champions League pressure is on, while praising Man United.

Chelsea is currently 4th in the table, only two points clear of 5th places Manchester United – and it’s going to be a pressure on both clubs to maintain the top-4 spots and fight for the CL qualification.

“I think every game is going to be pressure now,” Lampard told reporters. “West Ham was pressure because we knew we could go third. It’s a different kind of pressure but it’s still the same in how you focus on the game and job at hand.

“You cannot get too caught up in what everyone does at the moment. We did that tonight. There was no nonsense. The mentality was right. We started brightly and we carried on and got the small details of the game right at both ends of the pitch, which I was happy with.”

Lampard understands that instead of forcing the squad to finish in the top 4, he should allows the Blues to “embrace” this fight.

“It is not a comparison to get too caught up in,” Lampard said of Manchester United. “They are a very good team; we know that. The individuals that they have, the squad, the coaches that they have. We can only respect that.

“I watched their game early and with the individual quality when you look across their frontline you see two players on 20 goals and Mason Greenwood doing what he is doing scoring regularly.

“[Bruno] Fernandes and [Paul] Pogba in midfield, the signing of Harry Maguire. They are a really strong outfit. We know that and the fact we are two points ahead we have to be happy about.

“We know it is going to be contested right until the end of the season with the form that they are in. With respect to Manchester United and the teams around us, we have to focus on ourselves and try to keep picking up results. That will be the main importance to us.”

Frank Lampard Takes To Comparing Pulisic With Hazard

Frank Lampard was extremely pleased with Christian Pulisic after the 3-0 Watford win.

So much so, that he even went on to compare Pulisic with Chelsea legend Eden Hazard.

“I don’t want to get involved in that one too much, but they can both go by players and they’re both great to watch,” Lampard told Sky Sports.

“Eden did it here – sensational in what he did. I don’t want to make that comparison quite, but I also don’t want to take away from Christian, what he’s showing now is a real natural ability.

“A balance and the speed at which he can dribble with the ball, the next stage for him is more end product, more goals and more assists.

Inter Begin Negotiations With Chelsea For Emerson Palmieri

Inter Begin Negotiations With Chelsea For Emerson Palmieri

Chelsea have reportedly begun negotiations over Emerson’s sale to Inter.

Sky Sports reports that the fullback could be sold this summer for around £20 million.

Frank Lampard never really warmed up to the former AS Roma man, despite giving him a lot of chances early on. Emerson could never really settle under any manager since he came into the Bridge. He just seems like a misfit in the Premier League and could be better utilised by Antonio Conte.

Inter have already reinforced their right-wing by adding Achraf Hakimi for £36 million this past week. Now, it is time to secure the left and Emrson seems like an ideal choice. He has quality going forward while defensive weaknesses could be well covered in Conte’s three-man back system.

Lampard refused to divulge any information regarding the rumours. He said, “I’m not aware of the talks. What I am doing is focusing on the team and the squad day-to-day. I don’t have any real conversations about the transfer window, whether it’s who we might bring in or who might leave the club.

“Those are questions we do have to answer at the end of the season when the window opens. I don’t want to be swayed by rumour and gossip, and I’m not involved in it, so we’ll keep working.”

Chelsea take a massive lead in Havertz chase

Chelsea take a massive lead in Havertz chase

Bayern Leverkusen Sporting Director Rudi Voller has admitted that Havertz can leave the club this summer.

Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Voller said: “We have an agreement – if it fits, he can go this summer. As of now, he is a player of ours. We have our ideas, we know what he can do.

“I personally hope he stays one more year. Of course, you can’t force anyone. Havertz knows what he owes to his colleagues, the fans, and the club.”

Havertz, the 21-year-old has been in impressive form in the Bundesliga this season scoring 12 and assisting 9 goals. He has the versatility to play as a winger, a second striker, or a playmaker.

The German player is being scouted by Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool.

It is believed that Real are not serious, Liverpool does not have the funds while United are keen on Sancho. This made Chelsea the primary contenders but Bayer was strict on keeping Havertz.

Their stand seems to have softened now and Chelsea will see this as an encouragement to go after Havertz.

Lampard’s side has already captured the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech and adding Havertz will make it a devastatingly fast and dangerous side to deal with.

Chelsea To Start Looking For A Van Dijk-Like Figure For Next Transfer Target

Chelsea To Start Looking For A Van Dijk-Like Figure For Next Transfer Target
Bildbyran

Frank Lampard admits that Chelsea is in dire need of a Van Dijk-like figure to improve at set-pieces.

He noted that when Liverpool signed defender Virgil van Dijk, there was a direct rise in improvement in set-plays. That, in turn, reflected on Chelsea’s most underrated weakness – dead ball situations.

“We’ve looked at set-plays this season. When we came into the club, we looked at the stats from last season and we were bottom of the league in defending set-plays, in terms of other teams getting big chances against us, we were second-bottom in attacking,” said Lampard before Saturday’s PL fixture with Watford.

“If you look at personnel, and I don’t like to talk about my playing days, but we didn’t really work so much on set-pieces at all really – with certain managers more than others. There were probably a few reasons why and they were mainly John Terry, Gary Cahill, Didier Drogba, Michael Ballack and [Branislav] Ivanovic, so you stick it in an area and they defend it or they score goals.

“I think similarly with Liverpool, there was a lot of talk about them with set-pieces two or three seasons ago, they were zonal, they were conceding a lot.

“They signed Virgil van Dijk and he heads everything that comes in the box out, so there’s a huge relation to personnel and if you don’t have that in terms of big size across the team, I think trying to compete as hard as you can, making it difficult for other teams to score is the main thing.

Lampard realised that Chelsea also might need to look for someone like Virgil van Dijk.

“And there’s no doubt – I’m not making excuses when I say that because we’ve not done this well enough on the pitch, and that has to improve – when you look at who you might bring in, with the balance of the squad, in the modern day its certainly something to take into account when looking at recruitment.”
