Antonio Conte Chelsea Manager 2016-2018

Fabrizio Romano dismisses Antonio Conte Chelsea return rumours

Fabrizio Romano has quickly shot down recent reports tying Antonio Conte to an amazing return to Chelsea. The famed transfer insider spoke to his YouTube channel and dismissed the speculation, declaring it “absolutely not true.”

Romano clarified that while Conte is searching for his next management post, he has not actively approached Chelsea about a return.

Romano said: “Antonio Conte… guys, I’m receiving many questions about reports from Italy saying that Antonio Conte offered himself to Chelsea.

“Antonio Conte is not offering himself to anyone. He’s not in advanced contacts or concrete contacts with English clubs, but this point about Chelsea is absolutely not true, Conte didn’t offer himself to Chelsea.

“Conte is open to a new opportunity, we know we have many rumours about Napoli, and for sure Napoli could be a possibility, but is not something done or agreed as reported in the recent days at all.

“So let’s see what Napoli will decide to do. Antonio Conte is waiting for an opportunity, but Antonio Conte is not offering himself to Chelsea or to anyone.

“(He’s) just looking for opportunities around Europe and he will only go when he will feel is the right opportunity for himself.”

Chelsea’s season has been far from ideal, as they now sit ninth in the Premier League rankings. Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Stamford Bridge has been called into question following the team’s poor performance. However, Romano’s report suggests that Conte’s return to Chelsea is unlikely.

Pochettino’s time at Chelsea has been a mixed bag, with the Argentine manager dealing with a young and inconsistent team. Given the team’s troubles, there is a belief that Pochettino should be given a chance to continue developing.

If Chelsea decides to replace managers, they may need to go beyond Conte, whose previous time at Tottenham was less than fantastic.

A long-term vision manager who can provide a fresh start could be beneficial to the club. Romano’s provide adds clarity to the swirling conjecture over Chelsea’s managerial situation.
