Hudson-Odoi seeking meeting over Chelsea role

Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to be unhappy over his limited role at Chelsea under Frank Lampard so far.

His agent is reportedly set to have sought a meeting with the head coach to discuss the future of the player at the club.

The Chelsea academy graduate broke into the first team under Antonio Conte and took another year under Sarri to develop a regular role in the first-team squad.

However, back then Bayern were hovering around for his signature and Chelsea warded them off with a five-year extension on his contract bumped with a pay-grade.

One of the key reasons behind the extension however, was the fact that he was promised more game time besides a good rapport with new boss Frank Lampard.

It now seems that neither of those two conditions have prevailed and CHO’s representatives are seeking a meeting with the club hierarchy to discuss the player’s future at Stamford Bridge.

Bayern are reportedly back in the hunt for him as well. It should make for an interesting development as the Blues might just agree to a deal this time for the talented winger given the amount of new signings they have made.

Luka Jovic Turned Down Chelsea Move This Summer

Luka Jovic Turned Down Chelsea Move This Summer

According to news sources from Spain, Luka Jovic rejected a move to Chelsea this summer from Real Madrid.

Plenty of clubs were linked with the Serbian over the past year and Chelsea were one of them.

Of course, the Blues ended up signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig instead but was it at the end of Jovic turning them down? Chelsea fans might never fault their club for signing the German instead of Jovic, since the former has a much better track record in front of goal and much more accomplished.

Werner has even shown what he is capable of in his first two Premier League games even if he is yet to score. The forward was one of the more impressive players in both games against Brighton and Liverpool, giving defenders a lot of trouble with his pace and attacking intent.

Jovic, on the other hand, continues to struggle for minutes in the Spanish capital. His £50m move from Eintracht Frankfurt has not managed to pay off. Napoli, AS Monaco and AC Milan were also interested in signing him but the 23-year-old chose to stay with Real.

It is unlikely Chelsea will go for him in the future, having wrapped up their attacking signings this summer and looking at defensive additions now.

Silva: I am here to win the league, not enjoy England

Silva: I am here to win the league, not enjoy England

Thiago Silva has already won the hearts of Chelsea fans, and he has not even kicked a ball yet.

“The way I see it, it is the toughest league in the world, with six or seven big teams genuinely fighting for the title so the motivation is massive,” Silva told Chelsea’s website. “What motivates me, day by day, is the hunger to win. To win everything within my reach.

Coming to the Premier League, my main goal is to win the league title and I’m certain that we’ll be fighting for that every step of the way.  The team is really strong, we’ve got a great coach and I’ve come here to contribute in whatever way I can to ensure that we get as close as possible to achieving those aims.

That’s what motivates me: stepping out onto the pitch, and then winning, winning, and winning some more. I don’t think about anything else. What Chelsea represents to me is a source of great happiness and motivation to be a part of a new project, a new family and I hope that this will be a very special year together.

“With our young group, as well as some more experienced players like our captain [César] Azpilicueta, we’ve got all it takes for a great season. We’ve signed some top players. You can be sure I will do everything I can to repay the confidence [Frank Lampard has shown in me] out on the pitch.”

He continued: “The prospect of playing at the next World Cup is another thing that really drives me. I’ll be more or less 38 years old by the time of the next World Cup and I’m hugely motivated to be in good shape for it. The work that I’m putting in to make this a reality already started a while back and now Chelsea have given me a great opportunity to continue playing at the highest level.”

Asked if he had a message for Chelsea fans, Silva replied: “I’m arriving 100 per cent motivated for this new project – I’m not just here for the experience, I’m here to win. I hope that they believe, just as we do, that this is going to be a very special year and one full of success for the club.”

Chelsea new signing likely to debut against Barnsley

Thiago Silva is expected to make his debut against Barnsley on Wednesday night.

The 35-year old Brazilian defender joined the Blues on a free transfer back from Paris Saint-Germain in August.

In Chelsea’s last 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, Andreas Christensen was sent off and will serve a three-match ban.

Lampard was asked if any of the new signings could feature in the Barnsley game, he said: ‘Too soon probably in terms of fitness-wise.

‘We’ll see with Thiago because Thiago’s not coming back off an injury, he’s just getting fit.

‘The others it seems too soon, but they are not far away.’

Only Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are among the new signings that made their debut for the club.

Thiago Silva had an array of offers from clubs across the world but was won over by the project at Chelsea.

‘First and foremost, I came because Chelsea is an amazing team and one of the biggest clubs in the world,’ said Silva.

‘It helps when you’re welcomed so warmly, particularly by a coach who played until relatively recently, because in football there are very strong preconceptions regarding the age of players.

‘But I know about his experience when he first arrived at Manchester City, theoretically at the end of his career. He endured the same sort of thing as I’ve gone through.’

N’Golo Kante Gives Rare Post-Match Interview And Urges Teammates To Stay Together

N'Golo Kante Gives Rare Post-Match Interview And Urges Teammates To Stay Together

One of the rarest occurrences in football is N’Golo Kante turning up for a post-match interview.

After Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, the Frenchman did just that and gave us an insight into the game.

“In the first half we were able to keep possession, have some situations, make them run and give them difficulty,” said Kante after playing the full 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge. “So there were positives to take from the game.

“We worked really well in the first half and had some situations where we could have done better with the last choice. In the second half, 10 men, they scored early and it was more difficult. They have the ability to keep the ball and make us run. We did what we could, but it’s logical in the end Liverpool won.

“The result was a bit disappointing. We were focused on doing our best with 10 men. We have used every training session and every game to make each other better and to work together. We are getting better and we need to keep going in this way. The thing is to stay together and do well for the next game and the season.”

Chelsea’s defeat was dictated by a red card from Andreas Christensen and Kepa Arrizabalaga’s customary error to hand Sadio Mane the second goal.

Lampard passes verdict on Werner and Kepa

Lampard passes verdict on Werner and Kepa

Frank Lampard has passed varying verdicts on two Chelsea stars.

While the English coach was happy with Timo Werner’s relentless performance, he was not shy to call out his expensive goalkeeper Kepa who committed yet another blunder last night.

However, Frank was clear about the fact that he will continue to support Kepa as well.

“With the Kepa situation it’s a clear mistake,” Lampard said. “A clear mistake that has cost us because at that point we go on to have a penalty which we maybe score. Those fine margins change games at this level. We have to keep working, Kepa has to keep working. He has to have support around him, that’s very clear. It was a clear mistake on the day.”

As for Werner, the German forward had yet another frustrating day in front of goal, primarily due to the little support he got. Lampard noticed the effort.

“Normally with new faces, you get a month or so of pre-season to work on your patterns of play and how you want to play so we have to have time. Every team that is successful in the modern day has had time and a process so now our process starts here.

“Last year was a squad where we couldn’t do much business so we worked and worked to come fourth. Now it’s a new start — our objectives are higher, our expectations are higher and that’s fine. It will take some time but today I saw a lot of character and spirit.”

Lampard happy with Chelsea performance in 2-0 defeat

Frank Lampard has said that he is happy with Chelsea in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.

The match turned out to be a bit of a one sided show with the Reds not having to get out of second gear to dispose of Chelsea.

The Blues were struggling to hold on to the cleansheet with 11 men on, and Christensen made it all but game over after getting sent off at the stroke of halftime.

Sadio Mane scored twice in the second half to hand Lampard his first defeat of the new season rather early on. The second goal was yet another mistake from under fire keeper Kepa. Chelsea could have had one back after new boy Timo Werner won a penalty out of nothing, but Jorginho’s miss from the spot ended all hopes for the night.

“I was happy about our defensive game,” he told Sky Sports. “I wanted them to be better on the ball. We showed moments on the counter-attack where we dangerous. But to limit them to the chances they got in the first-half, there were lots of things I was pleased about.

“My team talk at half-time was going to be: ‘let’s be more confident on the ball lads.’ Then the red card changes the whole team talk.

“They can be given or not. Once the yellow is the first decision, you feel it needs to be absolutely critical that it’s red to make that difference. I’m not sure it was. I’m not going to complain too much.

Kai Havertz Excited To Face Chelsea vs Liverpool Action First Hand

Kai Havertz is excited to see Chelsea face Liverpool.

He previously only observed Chelsea vs Liverpool matches in the Champions League as a player in Bayer Leverkusen, which plays in Bundesliga.

“Klopp is a big manager in every sense,” the former Bayer Leverkusen forward said. “He’s achieved a lot at Liverpool and you can only say congratulations, but I don’t think he’s satisfied yet. From what I know of him I would say he is still hungry, wanting to win more titles.”

“I’m glad to have Timo over here with me,” Havertz explained. “I always wanted to play in England but I didn’t know I would get the move so soon. This is a big step for me, coming to a new country with a different culture at such a young age, but when you have a friend in the team from your own country it is always easier.”

And he’s happy that he’s now getting to witness that action first-hand.

“I do believe there are more important things in life than football, but I am still very excited about coming to England to play for Chelsea. It was always my goal to play in the Premier League and I am really happy to be here. I remember a lot of the games Chelsea played against Liverpool in the Champions League over the years, and now I am going to get a taste of that rivalry,” he added in anticipation.

Chelsea is set to complete the signing of £22m goalkeeper Edouard Mendy

Edouard Mendy has reportedly agreed on a five-year deal with the Blues.

Chelsea have agreed on a fee of around £22m for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The 29-year old has accepted a five-year deal with Chelsea and will soon fly to London to complete the medical and other relevant paperworks.

Mendy’s agent Djily Dieng told Senegal newspaper Stades: “The two parties have come to an agreement. All that’s left is the formalisation.

“It could even be done tomorrow if all goes well. Afterwards, the player will come to finalise everything, including having his medical examination.”

Chelsea’s record signing goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga has been under fire due to a number of high-profile errors last season and was dropped in the last few games as a result of his substandard form.

Chelsea’s technical director Petr Cech spoke last month about the Spaniard’s future, telling Sport.CZ: “Kepa struggled last season, that is unquestionable.

“But the club invested in him and gave him a long-term contract because they believe he has the qualities and attributes to be successful.

“Additions will be made to the squad, perhaps even in goal, and this is what is being discussed now. But nobody is giving up on Kepa and we all hope he has a great future.”

Timo Werner reveals why he snubbed Liverpool to join Chelsea

Timo Werner reveals why he snubbed Liverpool to join Chelsea
Bildbyran

Timo Werner opens up on how Frank Lampard persuaded him to join Chelsea.

The German striker scored 34 goals in all competitions in his last season with RB Leipzig.

Liverpool were heavily linked with the 24-year old striker but he eventually joined the Blues for £53million.

But he was tempted to play under Jurgen Klopp before making a switch to the Stamford Bridge.

Werner told The Atheltic: “In another world, it could have happened. If LFC call, you have to listen and think about it. They are one of the best teams on the world, with a super coach – a German coach to boot. Of course you think about that.

“But in the end, my decision went Chelsea’s way. Not because there was anything wrong with Liverpool. But at Chelsea, the whole package was a better fit for me.”

Frank Lampard played a huge part in convincing the German striker to join Chelsea instead of Liverpool.

He added: “He called me and we talked about his idea of football and his idea of how the way the team would look like.

“It all sounded good to me, especially the way he talked to me. It wasn’t like, ‘I’m the coach and I want you. Please come!’ He was very relaxed, asking me how I saw things, how I felt about playing here or there.

“And I was able to voice my opinion as well. He listened. In many aspects, we were in close agreement. He wants to play a pressing game, taking the game to the opposition, with quick transitions but to be good in possession as well.

“He said, ‘Timo, you will be free to make the right moves on the pitch, I trust you.’ It was a very good conversation.”
