Chelsea Defender Transfer Targets In Summer 2020: Latest Chelsea Transfers News

Chelsea Defender Transfer Targets 2021

Chelsea transfer targets defenders? Here, we will look at the latest rumours and news about Chelsea defender transfer targets. We point out defenders and defensive footballers that are considered on top of Chelsea’s radar for the summer of 2021. So, which footballers are the Chelsea FC defender transfer targets?

Roman Abramovich should give Frank Lampard enough budget to secure some of the footballers on the Chelsea transfer targets list. Chelsea may need to bring in a new centre-back (although Antonio Rudiger is just back from an injury), a left-back, a winger and a striker. So even if Chelsea may be stocked up on centre-backs, they may need to replace one or two.

Additionally, Chelsea have had issues in the wing-back position. Emerson has proven to be incompetent on the left flank and Marcos Alonso is not cutting it either. Davide Zappacosta has been moved out on loan along with Victor Moses to the Serie A. Reece James is still young and learning with Cezar Azpilicueta as his mentor. But improvements are still necessary in order to return to title-challenging ways.

MASSIVE WIN!!! @westham 😉🔥

A post shared by Declan Rice (@declanrice) on

Chelsea already have RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech from Ajax – and now they are looking to bring in Declan Rice from West Ham United to add to their defence. The Blues are now looking to streamline and make their defensive side better. So now they have turned their eyes onto a former Chelsea academy graduate – and Mason Mount’s best friend – Declan Rice.

Rice’s fee, however, is not low, it’s a neat £65m and Chelsea is reported to be wanting to sell Jorginho to raise funds for the West Ham defensive midfielder. Chelsea could only offer £50 million, which West Ham rejected.

The former Chelsea youth product is a brilliant defensive midfielder now who can also play as a centre back. He will be a brilliant buy for Chelsea as Declan Rice is a good player.

2. Dayot Upamecano – Chelsea defender transfer targets

Chelsea have taken notice of Dayot’s talents and so has several other Premier League clubs including rivals, Arsenal. The French defender has spent the past two seasons at RB Leipzig ranks and is doing it again this season. He made 34 appearances this season before the Coronavirus pandemic halted all football across the continent. His athleticism, pace and tenacity make him an ideal partner to Antonio Rudiger but his composure and passing traits definitely suit him to Frank Lampard’s style of play. Reports suggest that the defender could arrive for anywhere close to £40-45m.

He is young and proven himself to be a capable defender. However, if he is good enough for the Premier League, remains to be seen.

1. Kalidou Koulibaly – Top Chelsea Defender Transfer Targets

Kalidou Koulibaly is a centre back and is in huge demand right now. He is being pursued by several clubs right now and Chelsea is definitely one of them. Koulibaly currently plays for Serie A side Napoli. Koulibaly featured in 25 games in Serie A in the 2018-19 campaign –  However, Manchester City seem to be leading the race for now – but with Messi speculated to move to City, the Cityzens might just fall out of this race.

Is Kalidou Koulibaly good?

To be honest the real question is if Koulibaly is good enough for Chelsea. And the answer to that will have to be not yet. However, he does have the potential to become a brilliant player. Manchester City were also hot on his heels.

Chelsea will also have to sell before they buy. They plan to loan out Fikayo Tomori, who needs game time. The duo of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger it would seem have run down their time at the club. They could be sold in January.

Marcos Alonso has fallen out with Frank and will surely move on in January. As for Emerson, his agent has made it clear that the player could be on his way to Serie A.

Will Chelsea miss them?
