The Role Antonio Rudiger Played In Recruiting Timo Werner To Chelsea

Chelsea trumped Liverpool to the signing of Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger can take some credit for the move going through.

Other than costing around £45m in transfer fees, it was a giant coup in the eyes of the Blues faithful. Werner was, after all, a highly-coveted forward wanted by many.

Germany international, Rudiger will now have a chance to share the pitch with his international teammate at Stamford Bridge. He revealed exactly the part he had to play in the transfer.

“I did speak to him before because we have known each other for a long time,” Rudiger told Chelsea TV. “We spoke a lot during the lockdown and he told me he was interested in coming to England. Of course, then I did my bit, what I had to do.”

“He’s a really big threat to defenders,” he continued. “RB Leipzig is a more counter-attacking team but in terms of attacking the defensive line, he’s similar to Vardy. He has a lot of pace and if the defender makes a mistake and loses the ball, then he goes!”

When asked about Werner’s personality, Rudiger added, “I would say he’s a quiet, humble guy, always ready to do better. I hope he adapts very quickly when he comes because as we all know this competition is different than others.”

OFFICIAL: Willian And Pedro Sign Contract Extensions

Chelsea have successfully managed to sign Willian and Pedro until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, it was becoming very difficult for football clubs to keep their entire squad through the revised schedule.

Of course, many out-of-contract players are rebelling to sign extensions in order to not jeopardize their future moves. Fortunately for Chelsea, Willian and Pedro have agreed to stay these few extra months. Both players are crucial to Chelsea’s top-four ambitions for the season.

While they are 5 points ahead of their nearest rivals, nothing is guaranteed with eight Premier League games still left to be played this season. Willian has featured in ever single one of the 30 matches played this season while Pedro has featured often as a substitute. Frank Lampard has trusted the veterans with attacking roles while the younger players develop slowly.

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s has picked up an injury right after the lockdown was lifted. Lampard was disappointed in his fitness levels and will need the extra help to cover his position. Chelsea are still in the FA Cup hunt but their Champions League hopes might have ended with the 3-0 defeat against Bayern Munich in the round of 16 first-leg tie.

With only 7-8 matches to go and 7-10 points separating almost 8 teams fighting for two spots, the Premier League could not have hoped for a more exciting finish to the season.

Chelsea is currently in the fourth spot and five points clear of the next team Manchester United and 4 points behind Leicester City with a game in hand.

However, Azpi knows the situation can change very fast with such a huge chasing pack and has rallied his players to come through for the remainder of the season.

He said, “We have to be in the top four after the 38 games.”

“That’s when we have to be in the top four.

“Maybe people didn’t expect us to be where we are but if we are there it is because we deserve to be there. Also, we have missed a lot of chances to be even higher.

“We lost a very important player, of course, but we had a challenge, we started in pre-season and we’ve worked hard. We’re in a good position.

“Now it’s time to finish the job. It’s in our hands. It’s up to us to take it and finish where we want to finish.”

Chelsea is up next against the fiery Manchester City at the Bridge.

Chelsea skipper, Azpilicueta says they are proving life after the Belgian international left for Real Madrid last summer

Chelsea were not favourites to finish in the top four with new boss Frank Lampard taking over a club who were banned from the transfer market and lost their most valuable player Eden Hazard to Real Madrid.

They won their Premier League restart match against Aston Villa with a 2-1 scoreline.

The Spanish skipper urged his teammates to not lose focus and finish the job of securing their position for the remainder of eight games for Champions League qualification.

Azpilicueta said: “We lost a very important player, of course, but we had a challenge, we started in pre-season and we’ve worked hard.

“Maybe people didn’t expect us to be where we are but if we are there it is because we deserve to be there.

“We’re in a good position. Now it’s time to finish the job. It’s in our hands. It’s up to us to take it and finish where we want to finish.”

He added:“We have to be in the top four after the 38 games. That’s when we have to be there. Also, we have missed a lot of chances to be even higher.

The Spanish star also added: “The main focus is ourselves. We have it in our hands and we can only depend on us.

“But when you see teams dropping points that means the gap can be bigger and we have to take our chances. We are three points behind Leicester now.

“We focus on ourselves. We know we can improve. We still have a lot of games in front of us and they will come very quick and so we have to be ready for them.”

Pulisic excited by Werner signing

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has expressed his excitement about the signing of Timo Werner at Chelsea.

He triggered Chelsea’s comeback in their 2-1 win against Aston Villa coming off the bench and it was a good outing for the American who is excited by the new signings at the club!

“I’m really glad that I could come in and help the team in any way that I could,” he told Chelseafc.com. “Luckily I was able to get a goal and also help us get a great result.

“The manager just told me to go on and try and help us win the game. There was nothing special or anything in particular, I just wanted to try and use my talents and see what I could do. I’m happy I was able to do that.”

“I don’t think I actually hit it perfectly with my left,” he admitted. “Luckily I got enough on it to steer it on target and I was just happy to see the ball go in.”

The arrival of Werner certainly had the US international pumped up: “We already have a really strong team, with really good players and to add guys like that [Werner] it’s incredible,” Pulisic said. “We’re focused on this season for now, but at the same time we are excited for what’s to come.”

Chelsea returned to football with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

However, their boss Frank Lampard was not perfectly happy with the match.

Despite Chelsea’s win, there were gaping holes in the team with weaknesses that need shielding if Chelsea wish to get anything out of their next match versus Manchester City.

“We didn’t know exactly what we were coming in to and now we have three points when some teams have lost points around us,” he said.

“It’s important we don’t lose sight of some of the errors in the game, we conceded a poor goal.

“We played well in patches but when they put us under pressure slightly, I thought we gave it away too easily – things we will definitely have to clean up on in the future games coming up.

“I want to hang on the positive note but it’s my job also to look at things we can improve on. It’s a good feeling for us but we’ll get straight back to work tomorrow because we know the games are coming quickly.

“It’s important for the group because we’ve all seen that the games are looking slightly different.”

Chelsea are 5 points clear at the fourth spot with 8 games still to go.

Chelsea take a massive lead in Havertz chase

Chelsea’s chances of signing Kai Havertz has just shot up by a great deal.

The expert journalist and transfer specialist reporter Nicolo Schira reported the following: #Chelsea still in the front row for Kai #Havertz and continue to court him. Also #BayernMunich, #ManUnited and #RealMadrid are really interested in him, but #Blues at the moment lead the race. #transfers #CFC

Schira went on Twitter to detail that Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United are also keen on signing Havertz but it is Chelsea who are set to sign Havertz.

Havertz has been brilliant for Bayer Leverkusen in the last 12 months. He can play as a left-winger or a playmaker or even a second striker. He is one of the young German players coming through Bundesliga who has made a huge impact all across Europe.

Havertz is the typical modern-day attacker who not only has great technical abilities but is also a keen reader of the game. He can pick the best pass going forward, is alert and agile, and has deadly pace and finishing on him – all at the age of 20!

At London, Frank Lampard is already putting together a fearsome team in Pulisic, Werner, Ziyech, Mount, Abraham, James, Kovacic, Kante and many more.

These are mostly young players and having the leaders in Jorginho and Azpi along with Havertz and a couple of defensive reinforcements will really put the Blues with a sniff for a title challenge.

Chelsea reject Jorginho swap deal

Chelsea reject Jorginho swap deal

It was Maurizio Sarri who brought Jorginho with him from Napoli back in the summer of 2018.

The Italian coach was a big fan of the central midfielder and deployed Jorginho almost in every match, such was the trust between the duo. Indeed when Sarri’s tenure was failing at Chelsea, Jorginho was unfairly cast aside as a liasion of Sarri.

The manager has since then jumped ships for Juventus. Jorginho has rediscovered his fame at the Bridge under new boss Frank Lampard. Chelsea’s new vice-captain has scored 7 goals in 37 games and been a crucial part of Lampard’s team.

Sarri however, it would seem wants to yet again take Jorginho with him and sent in a swap deal bid deal for Chelsea. Juventus offered their star midfielder Miralem Pjanic in exchange for Jorginho but the Stamford Bridge, according to latest reports have turned the deal down.

Lampard is building a young, aggressive team, and having Jorginho would serve the Blues better in the long term than signing Pjanic, who is already 30 years old.

The Blues have signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and are surfing through the market rather rapidly to amp up their team.

‘Hungry’ Christian Pulisic Draws Praise From Lampard After 2-1 Villa Win

'Hungry' Christian Pulisic Draws Praise From Lampard After 2-1 Villa Win

Frank Lampard credited Christian Pulisic’s hunger in the 2-1 comeback victory over Aston Villa.

The Blues were trailing 1-0 after the opening half despite their dominance on the hosts. Kourtney Hause’s header broke the deadlock as Chelsea scrapped to finish off their chances.

Finally, after an hour of football, Lampard’s men equalized through Pulisic. He met Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross with his left and then Olivier Giroud got the winner with a quick turn and shot with his right.

“I am really pleased with the performance,” Lampard said. “Villa had the opportunity to do it one time more. It was new for us. We moved the ball well, dominated but we need to be more clinical. I can give leeway on that because it has been a long time out.”

Lampard sympathised with Pulisic for benching the USA-international who made his first appearance since getting injured on New Year’s Day. “He was hungry, I know that and I felt for him,” Lampard revealed.

“He has trained well. The ability to arrive in the box is a big thing and I think he can get big numbers. It is a difference between being a very good player on the flank and a top-class player.”

Lampard seems excited for the arrival of Timo Werner

Frank Lampard is delighted to have landed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig this summer with the Blues reportedly paying £47.5 million on Thursday. He will join up the squad next month once the Bundesliga season comes to an end.

Lampard revealed his pleasure in front of their outing to Aston Villa in their opening game of the Premier League restart.

“I’ve certainly followed him for a long time, not just when I took this job but before that as well. We went for him and he certainly will strengthen us in my opinion.

“It came across as a really exciting project for him, he obviously had some very good options. We are happy with that and we are just pleased Timo decided to come to us.

“He’s the type of player and profile we are looking at – he can come here and have a big impact hopefully.

“We’ll have to give him a bit of time for adapting, as the Premier League is a slightly different animal to all other leagues in world football, but the talent Timo has – the work ethic, personality and humility shone through when speaking to him – so I’m really looking forward to having him here in all senses.”

Wingers Pedro and Willian remain locked in negotiations over short-term extensions to their expiring contracts.

Lampard admitted Chelsea are still working hard to seal deals for the duo to complete the delayed campaign with the Blues, with their current deals shortly running out.
