Lampard seems excited for the arrival of Timo Werner

Frank Lampard is delighted to have landed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig this summer with the Blues reportedly paying £47.5 million on Thursday. He will join up the squad next month once the Bundesliga season comes to an end.

Lampard revealed his pleasure in front of their outing to Aston Villa in their opening game of the Premier League restart.

“I’ve certainly followed him for a long time, not just when I took this job but before that as well. We went for him and he certainly will strengthen us in my opinion.

“It came across as a really exciting project for him, he obviously had some very good options. We are happy with that and we are just pleased Timo decided to come to us.

“He’s the type of player and profile we are looking at – he can come here and have a big impact hopefully.

“We’ll have to give him a bit of time for adapting, as the Premier League is a slightly different animal to all other leagues in world football, but the talent Timo has – the work ethic, personality and humility shone through when speaking to him – so I’m really looking forward to having him here in all senses.”

Wingers Pedro and Willian remain locked in negotiations over short-term extensions to their expiring contracts.

Lampard admitted Chelsea are still working hard to seal deals for the duo to complete the delayed campaign with the Blues, with their current deals shortly running out.
