'Hungry' Christian Pulisic Draws Praise From Lampard After 2-1 Villa Win

Frank Lampard credited Christian Pulisic’s hunger in the 2-1 comeback victory over Aston Villa.

The Blues were trailing 1-0 after the opening half despite their dominance on the hosts. Kourtney Hause’s header broke the deadlock as Chelsea scrapped to finish off their chances.

Finally, after an hour of football, Lampard’s men equalized through Pulisic. He met Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross with his left and then Olivier Giroud got the winner with a quick turn and shot with his right.

“I am really pleased with the performance,” Lampard said. “Villa had the opportunity to do it one time more. It was new for us. We moved the ball well, dominated but we need to be more clinical. I can give leeway on that because it has been a long time out.”

Lampard sympathised with Pulisic for benching the USA-international who made his first appearance since getting injured on New Year’s Day. “He was hungry, I know that and I felt for him,” Lampard revealed.

“He has trained well. The ability to arrive in the box is a big thing and I think he can get big numbers. It is a difference between being a very good player on the flank and a top-class player.”
