“I look at Manchester United signing a big, big player, a world-class player [Fernandes] in my opinion,” Lampard said. “And the teams around us, Sheffield United making fantastic signings. Chris Wilder’s job is incredible because he’s had years to work that group and now they’re adding where he sees fit.

“Tottenham have signed a few and they’re not far behind us. And not only have they signed a few but a couple of players have left where the situation was they were towards the end of their contracts and maybe weren’t happy being at the club any more. Sometimes that’s as important as bringing players in.

“Now what remains to be seen will be seen and from my view – and this is not to talk ourselves down because we’re six points clear in fourth – now we become probably the underdogs and the outsiders to some point because the teams around us have strengthened. It’s a fact.”

Chelsea Lose England Youth International To Brighton

Chelsea have not only failed to sign any new players this January but they have also lost one of their promising talents in Tariq Lamptey.

Frank Lampard handed the 19-year-old his debut this season in the 2-1 Premier League win over Arsenal last month.

Fans were impressed by the youngster’s maturity and wanted to see more of him throughout the season. Unfortunately, with Lamptey’s contract due to expire, Chelsea had no choice but to cash in on the teenager. Brighton And Hove Albion were able to secure his services for £4m, signing him to a three-and-a-half-year deal.

“It was a really tough decision to leave as I’ve been at Chelsea since the age of seven and seen it all the way to the under-23s, and then the first team,” he told his new side’s official website. “It was a proud moment when I made my Premier League debut, but I felt that it was the right time to start a new chapter and come to this brilliant club.

“The manager and the club have shown great faith in bringing me here. I just hope I can repay their trust, and help the club reach their goals and objectives. They are a team on the up with a great fanbase, training ground and stadium and they have everything I need to become a better player.”

Lampard: Dries Mertens to Chelsea is off prompting Olivier Giroud to stay

0

That’s all folks.

The transfer window has shut for the Blues.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed Dries Mertens won’t be joining the club in the January transfer window and Olivier Giroud won’t leave. The 33-year-old Frenchman has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Tottenham as well as a switch to Italy with Inter Milan and Lazio.

However, the France international is now set to remain at Stamford Bridge after the club were unable to agree a deal to bring in Napoli striker Mertens to replace him. When asked if Mertens would join, Lampard, who appeared agitated, said: “No. I wouldn’t say frustrated. I wanted to bring players in, but I know how football has been.

“The window is 95% shut for us. The answer is probably no for the players you would ask about.” When pushed on Giroud’s situation, Lampard said: “He has been incredible as a player and a man during this time. Will he leave? No. He trained today. No ins and no outs.”

The Humble Story Of N'Golo Kante

The world knows N’Golo Kante as an exceptionally humble man. Well they are not wrong!

Ever since his Ligue 1 days, N’Golo has been known for some pretty great acts of humility. Here is a snapshot at them!

He used to pick up rubbish in the streets of Paris, France and hence comes from a rooted background of hard work!

He had a late introduction to professional football but never lost his habit of working hard even when things were tough as a youngster.

After joining a top tier English club like Leicester, usually the first things players do is buy cars – however, N’Golo did not buy one since he wanted to run to training.

He had to end up buying a car and bought a simple Mini Cooper. To this day despite winning leagues, European trophies and World Cups, N’Golo drives the same car.

He is loved by rival fans of Arsenal which is a rare feat given the hated history between the clubs.

After winning the World Cup, he had to be forced by his team-mates to life the trophy since he was too shy.

He rejected Chelsea’s offer to be paid through an offshore company which players use to avoid paying taxes. All hail the Kante man!

Chelsea transfer round up for deadline day!

Chelsea transfer round up for deadline day!

Chelsea have not fully utilized their right to sign players after overturning the transfer ban on the club.

Its been 30 days since the January market opened and we are on the last day of the transfers: Deadline Day.

So what has Chelsea has been up to. Let us do a quick recap.

Players Linked To Chelsea:

Goalkeeper:

Given Kepa’s horrible form in front of goal which saw him rank 127 out of 132 custodians in Europe, Chelsea were rumored to be in the market for Burnley’s Nick Pope. However, we do not know whether Burnley refused or Chelsea did not chase, but the transfer rumor died down pretty quick. Kepa it is for us for the rest of the season at least.

Defender:

The month began with strong links to both Nathan Ake of Bournemouth and Ben Chilwell of Leicester City. While Chelsea scouts reportedly pushed back the transfer of Ake citing that he was still not good enough for Chelsea, Leicester were less than amicable in their talks with anyone for Chilwell. Chelsea reportedly dropped back and are waiting to prepare a summer assault for the full back. There were also talks of Issa Diop in the middle but the value for Diop was deemed too high by the Blues hierarchy.

Midfielder:

While central midfielders are plenty in number for the Blues, Chelsea did look at options to get in Jadon Sancho or Hakim Ziyech. It is believed Chelsea have set back their wishes to sign Ziyech in the summer and have backed off the Sancho deal after baulking at his asking price.

Attacker:

The forward’s hunt is one which Chelsea has struggled in all month primarily. The story began with a rejected bid for Lyon’s Moussa Dembele. The Blues moved on to other options like Werner and Zaha but nothing concrete went through. The latest news are confirming that Chelsea have more or less lost in their chase for Edinson Cavani with PSG set to keep him until summer after which he wants to join Atletico Madrid for free.

Chelsea’s other option was Milan’s Piatek who has already made a move to Hertha last night. The last player linked with a move was Dries Mertens. The Blues are still believed to be working on a deal for him. Keep your eye out for this one as this might be the only steady move we can see Chelsea pull through on the final transfer day.

Barcelona making late move for Willian!

Barcelona are reportedly chasing Chelsea winger Willian.

The Chelsea winger has been in great form under Frank Lampard this season. In fact the senior winger has been the talisman and a leader for the club.

He has now generated interested in Barcelona. With a crazily slow transfer window in January coming to a close, clubs are scrambling for late move.

Barcelona are desperately short of quality up front. Their legend Lionel Messi is the only player available right now with new signing Antoine Griezmann out of form and lethal striker Luis Suarez out for 4 months.

Hence, they are looking at options. Recently they were reportedly turned down by Everton in their pursuit for Richarlison. They have now reportedly come in with a £20 million bid for the winger whose contract at the club expires this summer.

As for the player himself, there is no certainty to his future.

“Everyone knows how I love this club and how I enjoy to play for Chelsea. If I can, I will stay here until I am 40 years old but football is not always like this,” he told Sky Sports.

“[I want to stay] because I like to play here. It’s not only my decision, we have to decide together with the club. We’ve had some conversations.

“I hope I can say to you guys that I will stay but now I cannot say.”

Chelsea star Tammy Abraham has been the sole source of goals up front for the Blues this season.

However, it is only January and the Blues former youth team striker is bordering on exhaustion from match tiredness. He is mid way through his first senior season as a first choice striker for a big team in the top division and Chelsea realised this summer they need to find a solution for more goals to come.

They have been actively looking for players in the market. The search stepped up after Abraham had to limp off versus Arsenal in the league match at Stamford Bridge. Names from Dries Mertens to Edinson Cavani have all done the rounds at the Bridge. However, it is now rolling into the last day of January and Chelsea are still finding to tough to land a player.

However, in their training camp today there has been a revelation. An unlikely source of goal has come for the Blues. It was all done in fun and games. Check it out here!

The Frenchman is certain to leave the Blues.

And now Lazio have entered the race.

Lazio are reportedly leading the race to sign Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud this January. The Frenchman has made only seven appearances for the Blues this season so far, scoring a goal against Liverpool in the Super Cup. Giroud has been linked to an exit from Stamford Bridge for a while earlier Sky Italia claimed that Tottenham are offering him an 18-month contract.

However, a new report from Sky Italia‘s Gianluca Di Marzio, suggests that Lazio have not only entered the race to sign the Frenchman but are also the front-runners. It is added that Giroud has agreed personal terms with the Biancocelesti but a transfer depends on Chelsea being able to sign Dries Mertens from Napoli.

The 33-year-old is currently the Blues’ third-choice striker and it seems very unlikely that he will receive much first-team opportunities this season. However, a move to Lazio may not do too much help to Giroud in terms of first-team opportunities as Simone Inzaghi’s side already have the likes of Ciro Immobile, Joaquin Correa and Felipe Caicedo to choose from up front.

Jorginho has revealed hundreds of secrets to his personal life and habits exclusively to Chelsea FC Official page.

Here are the best bits from his interview!

Question 1: What was the first football kit you ever wore?

I can’t remember the first honestly, but I think it was maybe a shirt of the national team of Brazil. It was a gift from my parents. I can remember it from the pictures. All the kids in Brazil get Brazil shirts. It was no.10.

Question 2: When was the last time you wore a football shirt of a team you weren’t playing for?

It was a long time ago, before I became a professional. It was a Kaka shirt, a Milan shirt.

Question 3: What is an old football shirt you have kept?

I don’t have the shirts from when I was a kid anymore but I have a shirt from every season I played as a professional and I have every shirt I have ever swapped with another player, so I have a lot of shirts at home.

He was also asked about his eating habits.

Question 4: What is the last thing you normally consume before bed?

Water as well! It is important. The last food I have in the day is probably pasta.

Question 5: What do you reckon you eat most during the week?

Eggs probably. And I eat bread a lot.

And his favourite thing to watch?

Question 4: What have you watched most often in your life?

There is not really anything I have watched again and again but the series I watched most quickly because I just could not stop watching it was Prison Break. It was like I was watching 24 hours a day until the end!

We definitely agree with you on Prison Break, Jorginho! Read the full interview on Chelsea’s official website.

Chelsea In Talks With Napoli Over Dries Mertens

Chelsea In Talks With Napoli Over Dries Mertens

Sky Italia confirm negotiations are currently ongoing between Napoli and Chelsea for Dries Mertens.

The forward is running out a contract with Napoli, hence, bringing in a lot of attention from other European outfits.

Many teams like Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester United were reportedly pursuing a deal for the veteran this January. Fortunately, Chelsea have the upper hand in making a swoop.

Frank Lampard has already admitted that reinforcements are necessary and has even urged the Chelsea board to make signings this January. When asked about priorities, the Blues boss said, “In attacking areas, because we need to be more clinical.

“I wouldn’t say ‘a goalscorer’ but we need to be more clinical in the box in terms of our front line. When we attack and spend a lot of time around the opposition’s box, we have chipped in with some goals from midfield and have people who can arrive from midfield, but the broader reality is that we need more goals from the front line.”

If anything, Mertens definitely fits that bill of being a versatile forward with a solid goalscoring acumen. He can as an excellent backup, given his experience in the European top-flight. However, Sportitalia correspondent Alfredo Pedullà, also states a deal is nearly impossible to be struck before the transfer deadline.
