Note: I have selected players that are realistically attainable. Of course I would put players like Lionel Messi if I wanted to, but I’ve selected players that Chelsea could actually sign (and have been linked to in the past). I’ve also considered positions that need strengthening the most such as wing-backs. So here are the Players Chelsea could sign this summer 2019.
Top five players Chelsea could sign this summer in 2018
5.Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli, Centre Back) – players Chelsea could sign
Kalidou Koulibaly is one of the top centre-backs in the world right now. The big Napoli defender is strong, tall, and good on the ball, and can play out from the back. That’s exactly what Chelsea need in a centre-back and Chelsea may want to upgrade on one of their centre-backs. Young Dane Andreas Christensen has been good in the middle of the back three, but he’s made several costly mistakes. Koulibaly would be perfect in Lampard’s four man back system
Chelsea would have to pay upwards of £90 million though. But, if one of either in Antonio Rudiger or Andreas Christensen or Kurt Zouma leaves, Chelsea could sign him up. Chelsea have been linked with the Napoli man in the past, but failed to put in a big enough bid for him.
4. Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace, Winger) – players Chelsea could sign
Chelsea are in the race for this well reputed Crystal Palace winger. Zaha was initially ready for a move back in the summer. However, Chelsea were hit with a transfer ban and at the same time Zaha’s agents were unsuccessful in convincing his club Crystal Palace to let the winger leave.
It led to the player sacking his agent in the month of September and now he has appointed famous agent Pini Zahavi. Zahavi, the 76 year old is a famous agent for making the deal between Roman Abrahimovic and Chelsea when the Russian oligarch bought Chelsea from Ken Bates 17 years ago.
Zaha is a brilliant football player and a winger Chelsea will need. At Crystal Palace, he is a game changer. He is smart enough to change games on his head and has reached his peak and is currently playing his best game in the club.
Whether the Blues who had their ban lifted can bring him in now, depends to be seen.
3. Leon Bailey – (Bayer Leverkusen, Winger) – players Chelsea could sign
Leon Bailey is a hot prospect in Europe right now. The Jamaican born winger has been scoring magnificent goals for Bayer Leverkusen and is touted to become a future world star.
The 22-year-old can play on either the left or the right of a front three, and he often cuts inside on his stronger foot to shoot.Bailey has scored nine goals and made six assists in the Bundesliga this season and at 21, that’s an impressive feat.
The winger has often been linked with Chelsea in the past, and Bailey is even allegedly a Chelsea supporter! It should be easy then to sign him, plus he wouldn’t break the bank either.
2. Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund, Winger) – players Chelsea could sign
The former Manchester City squad player never made the cut to the first team. It saw him leave for Borussia Dortmund. At Dortmund, he has been given the license to thrill and he has seized the opportunity. Sancho runs left, right, centre at defenders. The young winger terrifies defenses for England and Dortmund and he is not even 20 yet. Sancho has already become Dortmund’s main man and could soon leave for a bigger club.
He certainly has expressed his desire to return home and play for the big boys. Chelsea have all his friends in Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and more. Sancho might just love to partner up next to the likes of Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
1. Moussa Dembele (Lyon, Striker) – players Chelsea could sign
Chelsea are in the hunt for a striker. Amongst many strikers who the Blues are reportedly interested, Lyon’s Moussa Dembele is probably number one on the list.
The Blues only have Tammy Abraham as their in form recognized striker. His back up Michy Batshuayi is not upto the mark to fill the boots at a club like Chelsea. The other back up Oliveri Giroud is actually good but Lampard does not see Giroud as more than a bit part player – something the Frenchman is not interested in given that the Euro 2020 is right around the corner.
This has forced Chelsea’s hand into the transfer market. The Blues were banned from signing players until recently after FIFA banned them back in the summer. However, it has now been prematurely lifted after the appeal from Chelsea was deemed worthy.
It is being reported that Chelsea have already launched their first bid for Moussa Dembele which has been deemed as unsuccesful. The Lyon president said that the Ligue 1 side want to hold on to Dembele as they see a possible future with him in the ranks even though they are currently 12th in the table.
The Blues however still have a few days left in the market and could go back again after failing in their first attempt to land Dembele.
