Lampard planning Timo’s pep talk

Frank Lampard is planning for a pep talk for misfiring Timo Werner ahead of Chelsea’s next game.

“The goals not going in is something an attacking player will get judged on,” Lampard said. “Today, Timo wasn’t giving us enough with or without the ball.

“With some of it we have to give him time, because it’s a different league, but also we have to get there quickly.

“I’ll have a conversation with him.”

Asked about Jorginho’s penalty miss, Lampard stayed calm.

“We’ll see … I won’t comment on that one,” said the Chelsea head coach, speaking in a post-match news conference.

“I will say Jorginho added a lot to the team in the second half, so we’ll deal with the penalties going forward.”

Lampard was left less than impressed with Chelsea’s overall attitude as well.

“I’m not sure if ‘complacent’ is the right word, but there was definitely a lethargic approach to the first half,” he said.

“No matter whether you’re playing Arsenal at a tough moment, who’ve got quality players, or any team in the Premier League, you can’t turn up lethargic.

“I am concerned by what’s at the bottom of it but I’m not sure it’s definitely complacency.

“But if you come and play slow on and off the ball, you’re going to have a big problem trying to get a result.

“The message was clear about what the game was: we had to attack it in the right way and we didn’t.”

Saka claims ownership over incredulous Mendy chip!

Arsenal beat Chelsea 3-1 on the night at Emirates.

It was a forgettable night for the Blues as they conceded some spectacular and some frek goals.

One goal in question was Bukayo Saka’s incredulous chip over Edouard Mendy.

Although Saka is a naturally left-footed player, the player looked like to be attempting a cross from his right foot which lobbed over Mendy into the back of the net.

However, Saka despite what looked like an accident is confident of claiming the goal.

“I saw him off his line so I thought I could chip him, yeah!” Saka said.

“We feel that we are a good team who have been unlucky with results and red cards but this is a big one for our confidence.

“It’s been tricky, tough, but we have come out of it and we are trying our best.

“We grew up with each other, the young players all want to play and have the passion for this club. We want to make the fans happy.”

Conceding a goal would be least of Chelsea’s worries as they have now lost 3 of their last 4 matches after a good run of matches.

Lampard will know his job will be on the line if things do not change fast.

Chelsea Veteran Calls For Players Not To Get Complacent Against Arsenal

Chelsea Veteran Calls For Players Not To Get Complacent Against Arsenal

Chelsea face Arsenal on Boxing Day and Cesar Azpilicueta is not giving in to their confidence.

The Gunners are in treacherous form this season but that does not mean the fixture will be easy.

Mikel Arteta’s men beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final in August. That will be a tie the Blues players will look to take revenge on. Seeing how Arsenal have won just one of their last 10 Premier League games, the Chelsea players will be licking their lips to have a go at their North London rivals.

“We were obviously disappointed with that result but now we’re four months later, it’s a different competition and a new game,” said Azipilcueta ahead of Saturday’s fixture. “They are not in their best form but we know their qualities and that they have dangerous players so we have to cope with that.

“We respect them and we know it’s going to be tough but we need points so hopefully we can go there and play our game. We have the confidence and belief to do that and obviously, we will try to get the points.”

Chelsea sit fifth in the table, six points behind leaders, Liverpool while Arsenal 11 points behind in 15th. If anything, this will be the perfect time to collect a win over the Gunners at the Emirates.

Chelsea Gets Transfer Boost As Erling Haaland Admits He Is A Fan Of Lampard

Chelsea Gets Transfer Boost As Erling Haaland Admits He Is A Fan Of Lampard

Chelsea are looking at more star talent to add to their squad and it just so happens one star likes them in particular.

Erling Haaland is the next torchbearer of world-class strikers as evident from his performances.

Borussia Dortmund’s leading goalscorer has been sensational since breaking into the scene with Red Bull Salzburg last season. He is proving to be an indomitable attacking force with plenty of clubs after him.

Real Madrid are the favourites to sign him in the near future but Chelsea are also creeping up behind the Spaniards. Roman Abramovich’s ambitious plan to sign world-class stars was on display last summer and the Russian owner is in no mood to stop.

Seeing how Chelsea need a solid number nine again, bringing Erling Haaland to Stamford Bridge would be a massive boost to the club’s future. Good news is Lampard is already one of Haaland’s favourite players.

In an interview with ESPN, Haaland was previously asked the one player he would have liked to play with and said, “Frank Lampard.”

No doubt the Chelsea legend is a role-model in many players’ books but it is particularly interesting to note that even Haaland idolises him. Surely, that gives Chelsea a stronger base to chase him with Lampard still in charge.

Lampard furious with PL chiefs for playing twice in 48 hours

Chelsea take on Arsenal on Saturday at 17:30 GMT.

The Blues follow it up with a visit to Aston Villa on Monday at 17:30 GMT leaving them to play two matches in the space of 48 hours in the busy festive period.

He said: “The fact it’s two games in 48 hours is an important point for us because there are other teams who are challenging at the top of the league that play two games in three days.

“Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool play two games in three days. It’s counter-productive for the quality of the Premier League, it’s a risk for players if they are going to play both games at top-end elite sport, everybody knows that.

“I know clearly what happened with this one as well because the games are being broadcast live, as they all are now.

“We play Arsenal on Boxing Day, that’s there and our game against Manchester City was moved to the Sunday, so the schedule meant – and Aston Villa wanted this as well – that we could have played Tuesday.

“We both wanted an extra day to play, but we got overruled by the Premier League and the broadcasters.

“I know sometimes the blame can be put on the broadcasters and I know that in conjunction with each other, and this was bounced around, it got decided that we play twice in 48 hours when other teams that are challenging at the top of the league play twice in three days, an extra 24 hours recovery.

“I don’t see how it’s a fair playing field.

“I think it’s wrong and it’s not going to be the best for the players to play at their top level.

“Don’t get me wrong, Aston Villa have the same problem, but I’m just saying we are not getting the rest period that other teams are getting.”

He added: “I couldn’t say what I just said and then bang out the same team and expect to get a high energy and high level performance out of them, necessarily fitness-wise.

“I think everyone who works in sport and speak to every club in the Premier League, sports scientists, when we play now, it’s the second day after a game, when we will be playing, is a second day recovery because it’s not good for the players to go and even train at medium to high level, let alone go and play 90 minutes.

“Everybody in the Premier League knows that, the Premier League knows that, so they have to inform the broadcasters. I will have to rotate players.

“I remember it from a long time ago, 20 years ago when I was at West Ham, so we’ve certainly gone back in time.

“In the old, old days they played back to back games, so, for some reason, somebody’s taken it back in time when we have the best product in the world and we want to see the best players on the pitch.”

Lampard trusting German duo to deliver

Timo Werner and Kai Havertz were brought in this summer from Bundesliga.

They had started well at the club but have faded off slightly off late. However, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has backed them to come well and deliver the goods.

“We always do extra finishing in training and I feel it’s very important to do specific work for strikers,” Lampard told Sky Sports. “I never felt you could score freely at the weekend if you didn’t work on it throughout the week, so that’s a big part of what we do.

“Timo has had a period where it hasn’t gone for him and strikers get judged on goals. He’s getting into positions very regularly and I feel that once he gets a goal or two, we’ll see many more from him. We’re working hard in training as we always do.”

“He was just starting to play really well when he caught Covid and had quite heavy symptoms with it,” Lampard said of Havertz. “It has taken him some time to recover, but he’s getting back to a better place now. He’s a highly talented player, a great young lad with a great attitude.

“I certainly have huge confidence that he’s going to be a really big player for the club. It’s important that we remain patient in the short term, but Kai is a huge talent.”

Lampard talks about Gunners-Blues rivalry

Lampard talks about Gunners-Blues rivalry

Frank Lampard was a part of the Chelsea team, that helped turned the tide around against Arsenal.

It was the start of a famous tussle and Lampard recollects how they won.

“The evening was a turning point when we got that result because it gave us a huge amount of belief at that time,’ he confirms.

‘We had not managed to beat Arsenal in my first days at Chelsea because they were a really strong unit and they had been built up for quite a number of years under Arsene Wenger, and we were changing, we were young. That night gave us belief so it did push us on at that point.’

‘When I joined at Chelsea, Arsenal had the upper hand on us and had won league titles before I came here. As we managed to change that a lot, there was obviously clear rivalry, as you would expect with London teams anyway.

‘I enjoyed that side of it, as long as it is controlled and carried out the right way, which I think it was for most of the time. I think that rivalry remains. My role now is different, I am not on the pitch, the players have to play with controlled passion because that is what a derby brings.’

‘Some plans did up in smoke unfortunately in terms of seeing more family but we have to adhere to that at the minute,’ he says. ‘I think we all understand the seriousness of the situation, especially in the last week and the news and if you read the reactions and what we are being asked to do, there is a reason for it. I am fortunate that I can spend it with some close family but maybe not as normally as most years.’

Sherwood hails Thiago Silva

Sherwood hails Thiago Silva

Veteran Thiago Silva has taken to the Premier League like fish to water.

The 36 year old Brazilian defender joined Chelsea from PSG on a free transfer. His contract at Paris had run down and instead of extending his stay, Silva chose a new journey with Chelsea enticing him to football in England.

Since his debut match, where he made an error, Silva has been practically flawless. He has not only solidified the defence, but also marshaled the backline and helped everybody concentrate better.

He also has come up with goals on the other end.

Sherwood told The Kelly and Wrighty Show: “One thing’s for sure. They’ve signed someone in Thiago Silva who is his best signing, without doubt.

“Not only is he a great player with experience and strolls through games he also makes Kurt Zouma next to him better.

“I think [Ben] Chilwell and [Reece] James in the full-back areas are fantastic, [N’Golo] Kante’s playing in his correct position now.”

Chelsea will be without key players ahead of London Derby.

Frank Lampard has confirmed that Hakim Ziyech won’t be available for the Boxing Day fixture against Arsenal.

The Moroccan winger was subbed off with a thigh problem in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Leeds United earlier this month.

Lampard said in his press conference: ‘No. He won’t be fit for Arsenal, no.’

‘He had an injury with his knee at the start of the season and he’s just got another muscle injury so you have to wait for it to recover,’ Lampard responded when asked whether he was concerned about Ziyech’s fitness issues this season.

‘We hope to have him back within the next week or so and hopefully offer what he was offering before because he was offering great things and you miss that when it’s taken away.

‘But that’s football, that’s what happens when players are playing at a really high level every two or three days.’

Both Reece James and Ben Chilwell are being monitored over the last few days.

Chilwell is suffering from an ankle injury and James is struggling with a knee injury.

‘They’re both doubtful so I can’t give you an answer at the moment,’ Lampard said when pressed on the England duo.

‘We’re not sure whether they will be fit for either game. Yeah, that’s the answer.

Timo Werner not frustrated by lack of goals

Timo Werner is struggling for goals in his debut Premier League season.

Chelsea’s hottest summer signing Timo Werner is witnessing a nine-match goal drought in the Premier League.

He has eight goals and six assists in 21 games across all competitions this season but is yet to hit the peak of last season where he scored 34 goals for RB Leipzig.

The German forward recently admitted that the Premier League is more physical than he anticipated and he is struggling at the moment.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes that the forward will be quickly back in his goal-scoring form.

“I talk to him all the time but I don’t sense frustration,” said Lampard.

“I think it’s clear that as a striker you want to be scoring regularly, as he has done in his career.

“But at the same time every striker has moments when the ball doesn’t drop for you for whatever reasons.

“The positive thing is he’s getting chances in games, he’s using his attributes to get into the box, he’s getting chances, so they’ll come.”
