Man City and West Ham leading race for Chelsea's Ian Maatsen

Ian Maatsen has spent major time on loan at Championship clubs.

Ian Maatsen is now the primary target for Chelsea’s two rival clubs, Manchester City and West Ham. They are preparing to pounce if it becomes apparent that Ian Maatsen is likely to leave the club next year.

The Dutchman has spent major time on loan at Championship clubs. He also played a key role during Burnley’s title-winning campaign last season.

Burnely wanted to sign the 21-year-old for a permanent basis but the player was keen to establish himself at Stamford Bridge. He has started in two EFL Cup ties and made six substitute appearances in the Premier League, accumulating 84 minutes.

Mauricio Pochettino is also looking to keep him and sees him as a future prospect. However, Chelsea officials would have been happy to sell the left-sided player for £31m in the summer with just a year remaining on his contract.

According to TEAMtalk, Man City and West Ham are currently planning to get the Dutchman in the summer of next year. The report adds that Maatsen is regarding a pathway to regular first-team football.
