Chelsea wonderkid David Datro Fofana struggling in his loan spell at Germany.

The highly-rated forward has failed to hit the ground running at Germany after joining Union Berlin on loan this summer.

Chelsea felt the youngster needed more minutes under his belt to continue his development and Union Berlin would be an ideal destination for the Ivory Coast international.

So far, Fofana has racked up 453 minutes of action without any goal or assist and is way down the pecking order behind Kevin Behrens, Sheraldo Becker and Kevin Volland.

The Blues have invested heavily in young talents under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Fofana was one of their several additions.

The transition has been difficult for the young striker who is yet to open his account this season.

Union’s sporting director, Oliver Ruhnert, reveals that the striker has had some problems in his personal life that derailed his confidence this season.

‘Changing the results is not that easy for a young player,’ Ruhnert told German publication Kicker.

‘He has also had private problems at times. A little something came together.

‘He also lacks a goal to give him some self confidence but he is someone who can help us.’
