Former Real Madrid midfielder Pedro Leon claims Jose Mourinho stopped him from joining Chelsea.

Pedro Leon was brought in from Getafe during the Portuguese tactician’s first transfer window as boss at the Bernabeu. However, he lasted just one season at Real Madrid before returning to his former club on a two-year loan deal, which was eventually made permanent in 2013.

He made just 14 appearances during his only season at the Santiago Bernabeu, while Mourinho made it clear that he was unhappy with the midfielder’s effort levels in training.

“You talk of Pedro Leon as if he was Zidane or Maradona or Di Stefano, he is a player who not long ago was playing at Getafe. He is not called up for one game and it seems like you are talking about a great player”, said Mourinho when asked why Leon was left out of a Champions League squad just months after his arrival.

Speaking to El Transistor, the current Eibar man revealed that he had opportunity to move to the Premier League back in 2011, but his manager refused to let him go.

“I had an offer from Chelsea, but Mourinho didn’t let me go”, Leon revealed. “There was also interest of Manchester City and AC Milan, who wanted to sign me in January 2011, but I was not allowed to leave.”

Leon was eventually asked about the coach’s scathing comments where he referenced Zinedine Zidane and Diego Maradona. “These are circumstances that could have been avoided, but I was not the only one to blame.”

Jorginho’s agent has hinted that the player will want to return to Italy one day and possibly retire there.

The central midfielder who formerly played for Napoli joined Chelsea last season for a massive deal. He faced a lot of criticism early on in his Chelsea career but now seems to have settled in well.

‘It has certainly been a positive year for Jorginho,’ he told Radio Sportiva. ‘He is doing well for the Nazionale and can take part in the Euros. He always converts his penalties, I am very happy for him, as he is working so hard every day.

‘Naturally, it was not positive when Giampiero Ventura was the Italy coach, but he has slowly become first choice in that midfield. ‘It certainly helps that he plays for Chelsea, because it’s a very intense style of football in England and he learned a lot from both Maurizio Sarri and Frank Lampard.’

‘I think Jorginho can do very well at the Euros and, why not, also at the next World Cup,’ he continued. ‘As for a return to Serie A, anything is possible. ‘He will always feel the desire to come back home.’

CHO used to terrorize Azpi in training

Rob Green has revealed Dave could not cope with Hudson-Odoi in training.

He said, “We had Willian, Pedro and obviously Eden [Hazard] in the same positions but the manager had such a strong belief about playing the players he trusted. He would not play other players,’ Green told BBC Radio 5 live. ‘It was the same team, the same formation every week, maybe one or two changes and Callum just wouldn’t get a look-in. ‘We’d go into training and he’d tear it up day in, day out and the things he would try in training with no pressure… and he’d do it in games. You’d just see him trying stuff because he just wanted to.”

‘It’s not that players like this don’t care. It’s just that they can play with the freedom and understanding that they can try these things and are good enough to pull them off. ‘He would try it in training against some of the best players in the world, some of the best defenders. ‘Azpilicueta playing up against him in training… couldn’t live with him! He’d chop inside him and Azpi would turn around and go, “Oh God, he’s gone past me”, and then he’d just bend one in the far top corner or fire one in at the near post.’

Roman Abramovich Lauded For Not Shutting Down Chelsea Academy

Roman Abramovich Lauded For Not Shutting Down Chelsea Academy

Could you imagine how the team would have looked now if Chelsea had shut down the Academy a few years back, the way Roman Abramovich wanted to?

The club’s former technical director, Michael Emenalo admitted how much of relief it was to see the Academy not killed off.

He said, “It’s amazing what is unfolding. What’s happened with these boys, you can only feel pride. Not just for the boys, but thankful for the effort a lot of people who have had a lot of input into all of these boys succeeding.

“I defended the academy when there was pressure and doubt and pessimism. A manager came in to make a presentation to say the academy was not necessary. The argument was it takes too long, and that the owner should stop pumping money into it because it seemed like a waste.

“Of course, you always need some luck and that luck has come with the transfer ban and with the appointment of Frank and his assistants, Jody Morris and Joe Edwards. It doesn’t mean it will be smooth sailing from here, it just shows that it is possible.

“The policy was always to have the players grow together and to grow the culture. You saw it at Barcelona with Xavi, [Andres] Iniesta and [Sergio] Busquets. You build a really, really wonderful football culture – a Chelsea culture – and this is where identities come from and these guys will play and care for this club for you to come.”

Callum Hudson-Odoi Thought He Might Never Play Again

Callum Hudson-Odoi Thought He Might Never Play Again

Callum Hudson-Odoi has returned to playing full time with Chelsea but the battle to recover was not easy.

The talented young winger admitted that there were doubts over him ever playing again after he tore his Achilles last season.

He said, “I wondered if I would be able to play again; that was my first thought. I knew I’d done something really serious so I was really concerned. But my family kept me confident that I’d be back to how I was.

“There were days when I would go into training and I would be sad or disappointed because I could see the boys outside training and you just want to be out there with them. So I had the dark days but at the same time I had positive days as well.”

“When it came, it was more anger for me because everything was going as I wanted it to go,” he continued. “I was playing games, I’d got called to the national team – everything was going perfectly. There were big games coming up. But I knew when I came back I’d be stronger than I was before.”

After returning to work under Frank Lampard, Hudson-Odoi said, “It’s an amazing feeling.

“I was out for three to four months and it was crazy to even get the injury in the first place. It’s something I had to deal with mentally because I’d never experienced an injury like that before.

“I’m really delighted with the way I’ve come back. I didn’t expect to get this many assists and to contribute with a goal as well. Hopefully, I’ll keep improving and adding goals to my game.”

Willian proud of Chelsea landmark

Chelsea ace Willian has expressed his happiness at reaching the 300 match landmark for the club.

The Brazilian signed for the club back in 2013 and is now one of the more experienced players at the Bridge.

“I always believed I could play so many games. I had to believe,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s difficult to achieve this number, especially when you play for a big club like Chelsea because there are many, many players that are fighting for the same position. It was a challenge for me.

“In football you have to prove yourself every day, in every game. When you stop doing that you have to stop playing. You have to prove it to yourself as well. I have done that.

“I have been here already for six years, I have had different managers, different players in the squad, and I was proving every training session, every game, that I can play many, many years for this club.

“I think I have improved a lot. Every game you can learn from. Then after every game you ask yourself ‘What have I done well, what have I not done well?’ I always want to continue improving.

“Now I’m very proud to reach this number, and I hope for 300 more to come!”

Predictions: Where Chelsea Will Finish In The Premier League

Predictions: Where Chelsea Will Finish In The Premier League

There is a heated debate every week on where might Chelsea finish in the Premier League this season under Frank Lampard.

Former Liverpool player and England teammate of Lampard’s, Glen Johnson gave his take on the Blues. He said, “If Chelsea can keep going as they are, they could easily break into the top four.

“I’ve always said if Frank Lampard could get them into the top six he’s done a fantastic job and with the way United and Spurs are going, he could do even better than that.

“Everything he’s doing this season is building bridges for the next couple of years, especially as they haven’t been able to add to their squad.

“If he can keep improving his players, this Chelsea side will be in a very good spot once the new faces are able to be brought in.

“The whole transfer ban could turn out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise as it’s forced the club to bring the likes of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham through and, providing they keep going as they are, they look to have some potential stars on their hands.

“I’ve been really impressed with Abraham. I really didn’t think he could translate his form from the Championship to the Premier League, but he’s shown he’s more than up to it.

“There is such a huge difference between the two leagues, so to do what he’s done so soon into his Premier League career is very impressive.”

Chelsea Have Serious Reason To Recall Ethan Ampadu From Loan

Chelsea Have Serious Reason To Recall Ethan Ampadu From Loan

Chelsea will be looking to recall Ethan Ampadu from loan due to a lack of playing time.

The Welsh international was sent out to RB Leipzig this summer in hopes of seeing him play more minutes in the Bundesliga but he is yet to appear on the pitch this season.

This is in violation of rules of the agreement and Leipzig has forced Chelsea’s hands into taking some action. Wales manager, Ryan Giggs voiced his concerns about Ampadu’s current situation.

He said, “It is a concern because Ethan is at the age now where he has to play. He’s had a few problems there injury-wise, nothing serious but little aches and pains.

“The last few camps he’s looked so much better in training. He is such a talent it’s hard to ignore. But it’s very difficult for him to play 90 minutes and back-to-back games because he’s not had the minutes.

“You’ve seen it work with the likes of Jadon Sancho, who have done well abroad. I think [loans abroad will] happen more and more, but they’ve got to play.”

Jadon Sancho has become an integral part of Borussia Dortmund and plenty of other English faces have made their names in the German top-flight as well. Ademola Lookman made it into the Leipzig lineup and the likes of Lewis Baker, Reece Oxford and Jonjoe Kenny are also playing in the Bundesliga.

Cech describes ice hockey passion

Petr Cech has embarked on a new career at Ice Hockey.

“When you get hit by the puck in the wrong spot, it hurts even when you’re wearing the padding,” Cech said on Saturday.

“But then, when someone hits you from a meter’s distance in football, it hurts too,” added the 37-year-old who retired from professional football in the summer.

“The puck will hit you hard through the trapper but then you end up with a bruise at worst, that’s no disaster,” Cech said.

He found other parallels between football and ice hockey, the two most popular sports in his native Czech Republic. “The warm-up will be the same as what I did in football,” said Cech.

“And the pre-match skate has a similar structure as the warm-up before a football game,” he added.

“Also the coach gives you information before the game, tells you what he wants from the team and you.”

“The only difference is that I don’t know anything about the opponents here – I would be able to gather more information at Chelsea,” Cech complained.

Like in football, the goalkeeping chore was the obvious choice for Cech, who loved watching and playing ice hockey as a child. “I wasn’t keen to turn into a forward. I can only skate well enough for a netminder – I don’t think I could play up front,” he said.
