Chelsea Must Be Tough On Each Other To Win Trophies – Mason Mount

Chelsea Must Be Tough On Each Other To Win Trophies - Mason Mount

Mason Mount understands the need to push his teammates in training.

Chelsea won 2-0 over Newcastle United on Saturday, going up to the top of the Premier League for a short while.

Mount told the club’s website, “I said to Timo in the first half, ‘that’s a goal for you, you need to score them’ because I’ve seen them go in day-in and day-out in training.

“He’s a top player and he needs to be harsh on himself to score those. He knows that and, if it comes next week, he’ll put it away.

“I was disappointed with my one as well because I feel I should be scoring those. We’re all tough on each other and tough on ourselves because we want to be pushing to get number one.

“We need to have that in the group where if someone doesn’t score or makes a mistake, we can tell them. Chelsea teams in the past had that in their group and we need the same in our group. If we do, we’ll have a top chance of winning trophies.”

We can all see why Frank Lampard favours Mount so much. He has that leadership quality in him even at such at young age.

Kante back in full form after Newcastle win amid Inter links

Kante back in full form after Newcastle win amid Inter links

N’Golo Kante impressed as he came back to full form in Saturday’s 2-0 Newscastle win.

Frank Lampard had been patiently waiting for the midfielder to get back into action and looks like his efforts have paid off.

“We have had an injury-free period to get him to a place we are really happy with,” Lampard said of Kante’s fitness.

“We keep a check on his training and how much distance he travels because every time we allow him off the leash in training, he does a ridiculous amount of work because of the way he plays.

“So, we are very aware of that and are very careful with him. As a result, we are in a good place with him, so hopefully that continues.”

Moreover, Kante has been linked to a move to Inter Milan, and reuniting with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte. However, Frank Lampard is simply ignoring these rumours and is intent on keeping N’Golo Kante on at Stamford Bridge.

“I have so much faith in him and the top midfield player that he is,” he added. “It’s not just about breaking up play and winning the ball back, even though we know that is a huge quality of his.

“It’s also about his passing and his support play in midfield. Moving into that deeper role has been a very comfortable transition for him, so we’re just really, really happy with him.”

Frank Lampard sent strong Timo Werner warning following Newcastle win

Frank Lampard advised playing Timo Werner from the centre.

Timo Werner who arrived from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £47.6million is enjoying a fantastic debut season at the Premier League.

The German striker has amassed over eight goals and provided four assists in all competitions this campaign.

But former Arsenal player Ian Wright insists Lampard should play him through the middle instead of deploying him from the left in a three-man attack.

A post shared by Chelsea FC (@chelseafc)

He said: “I think that suits Timo coming from there, coming from deep.

“You saw with Tammy’s goal he went past the defenders like they weren’t there, he set Tammy up and he finished well.

“He seems to play off a front man better.”

Ian Wright was unimpressed by Chelsea’s finishing at Newcastle United and said: “It could’ve been too comfortable there and like Frank said they missed chances and they need to be a lot more ruthless if they are going to go on and get into that top four, or really challenge simply because it could have been a lot easier than it was,” Wright said of Chelsea’s fifth win of the season.”

“You can go to a place like Newcastle and if you are that wasteful they can get you and come back and maybe nick one.

“I think today I thought Tammy was a lot better with his movement and got his goal in the end and Timo Werner he was kind of wasteful with the kind of chances that we know he normally will take.

“But other than that it could’ve been a lot more comfortable.”

Lampard Hails Newcastle 2-0 Win

Lampard Hails Newcastle 2-0 Win

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was pleased with the Newcastle win.

Chelsea won over Newcastle by 2-0, with Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham scoring the two goals.

Lampard admitted: “I thought the first 20 minutes we were great because we had control and we had penetration. We had people running in behind, we were getting in sight and making crosses. I think sometimes the danger of that sort of control is it becomes comfort, which is dangerous and we then turned it over a couple of times.

“So that was the message at half-time. They came out more positive in the second half and I always felt the real danger moments for us could be on transition and counter-attack, because Timo showed that two or three times in the first half and then obviously he shows that for Tammy’s goal.

“We played well in patches and the result is key in these games because the Premier League is tough. It’s relentless and after the break where we were playing well and everyone goes in their own directions and comes back. I thought the lads dealt with the challenge of the game very well today, so I’m very pleased.”

Joe Cole impressed by Antonio Rudiger’s performance against Newcastle United.

The German defender was commendable in the heart of defence in his first Premier League appearance of the season.

He was called upon to replace Thiago Silva who returned from a tiring international break.

Rudiger also helped Mendy secure his seventh clean sheet in nine appearances.

A post shared by Antonio Rüdiger (@toniruediger)

Joe Cole told BT Sport: ‘It’s the nature of the beast when you’re at a club like Chelsea or any of the big boys, you know every summer they are bringing in players to strengthen.‘They’re not bringing in players to come and sit on the bench, they are bringing in players to make an impact on the pitch.

‘Rudiger is a difficult one because he’s been captain and he’s a senior player but you have to give credit where credit is due.

‘It’s a difficult day for him. He’s come in and pitched it right. It looked like the biggest credit I could pay him is that Thiago Silva wasn’t even missed one bit. He just came in did his job and it was an exceptional performance.’

Frank Lampard full of praise of new Chelsea captain

Frank Lampard hails ‘exceptional’ N’golo Kante in Newcastle win.

Kante captained in his sides’ 2-0 win over Newcastle United and Lampard was delighted with his performance on Saturday.

“Last year, however you want to phrase it, he missed 50 percent of games with injuries, he had a tough time for different reasons,” Lampard told reporters.

“We’ve been working very hard to get him fit and fresh with how we manage his training and game time.

“But his levels of performance are really high.

“I keep saying every time I get asked about N’Golo I have so much faith in him. The top midfielder that he is in world football, and not just breaking up and winning balls back, we know that’s a huge quality, but his passing and supporting in midfield, playing in that deeper role now, it’s been a very comfortable transition for him as he’s playing.

“I’m really, really happy with how he’s playing.

“I don’t want to tempt fate [with his fitness] because at the minute it’s going well. It’s a constant one for us that we are managing.

“When I came in at the start of last season he had been injured from the Europa League final and that rolled on through the year and we just chased it down from there.

“So that was unfortunate, it felt unfortunate for us to lose him for 50 per cent of games because of the level of player he is.

“We have had a better period with him to get him in a place we’re really happy with. We’re very aware and keep check on his training and his numbers and how much distance he travels.

“Because every time you train and you allow him off the leash in training, he makes ridiculous output because that’s the way he plays.

“We are very careful with that and at the minute we are in a good place and hopefully that continues.”

Chelsea Boss Delighted To Have Billy Gilmour Back Fit

0
Chelsea Boss Delighted To Have Billy Gilmour Back Fit

Frank Lampard is a huge fan of Billy Gilmour.

That was established last season when the teenager was awarded minutes over veteran, Jorginho last season.

Gilmour quickly took the opportunity to impress in the midfield pivot, putting up Man of the Match displays against Liverpool and Everton. Unfortunately, an injury got him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

Lampard showed his faith in Gilmour by keeping him in the squad last summer, instead of sending him out on loan. With the closed-knit schedule this term, the Scotsman can expect to play way more now that he has recovered fully.

Ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Newcastle United, Lampard said, “He is fit again. He played on Wednesday night in the EFL Trophy, got good minutes and I’ve heard he played well so we are happy with him and he’ll play again at the weekend in the Under-23s.

“He’s getting minutes but he’s not match fit. That will be a short period as he is a generally fit boy.”

“He made great strides in a short time last year,” continued the Blues head coach. “I was very confident with putting Billy in for a big part of the season, from his training and then when the time came.

“I possibly held him back slightly at times looking back. He put in some really good performances before his injury.

“We must put some context on it that he is still a young player and we have good competition in the squad in that area but I have absolute faith in Billy that he is going to be a big player for us for a long time to come. I’m really excited to have him back fit.”
