The unwanted Chelsea midfielder could soon team-up with former side.
Despite being linked with a return to AS Monaco in recent weeks, the return Bakayoko might be making is to AC Milan instead, as he is pushing to be allowed to rejoin the Italian side after being frozen out at Chelsea.
Bakayoko spent last season on loan at the San Siro having been surplus to the requirements of previous boss Maurizio Sarri. The 25-year-old had reported back for pre-season training hoping to resurrect his Chelsea career after new manager Frank Lampard made it clear all players had the chance to be in his plans.
But Lampard has also decided the French international midfielder was not what he was looking for in his new-look squad this season. Now the 25-year-old is desperately hoping to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes next week,
And his preferred destination is understood to be Milan, with another loan deal on the cards. According to Tuttosport, the Chelsea midfielder could be in line for a shock return to AC Milan before the transfer window slams shut on September 2, as it is understood the Rossoneri themselves do not rule out a late bid for the Frenchman.
The extra wrinkle is that Bakayoko could be replacing Franck Kessie at the Rossoneri, if he does indeed move to Monaco as his and the team’s supposed preference – instead of Bakayoko.
Talks with Turkish side Galatasaray failed to lead to a deal, but a move seems inevitable with N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mason Mount, Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic and the soon-to-be-fit Ruben Loftus-Cheek all preferred midfield options for Lampard.
Monaco recently made an approach for him and reports later claimed Chelsea had blocked the move.
