Chelsea youth academy product Ruben Loftus-Cheek has said that he is hopeful that his current run in the first of team at Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri will earn him a national call up with the Three Lions squad for the upcoming European competition of the UEFA Nations League.

He said: “I am focussed on the now and hoping (for England) in the future. The way you get in the England squad is doing well for your club.”

“England is a by-product of what you’re doing. My focus is all on Chelsea and playing well when I get the opportunity. If you do well, you have every chance of being called up to England.”

Loftus-Cheek added: “Through the years Chelsea have brought through real talent, you can see it with Reece James, Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount doing so well on loan.

“There are so many that can play for Chelsea. Hopefully in the next few years we will see a team with some academy products.”

Loftus-Cheek is one of the few Chelsea players to have made it from the youth academy to the first team.
