Lyon backing out to pursue January deal for Chelsea centre-back Badiashile

Badiashile’s contract will expire at Chelsea until the summer of 2030.

Ligue 1 giants, Lyon are denying any plan to sign Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile in January. They were supposed to make a mid-season loan deal for the centre-back.

The former Monaco man had an injury-hit season at Stamford Bridge. He arrived at Chelsea from Monaco in January, but he missed the first couple of months of the 2023-24 season with a hamstring injury.

Chelsea are preferring Axel Disasi and Thiago Silva for starts at centre-back. Mauricio Pochettino has switched to a four-man backline. Les Gones was heavily linked with the France Under-21 international.

As per football.london, the Ligue 1 club are not looking to sign  Badiashile next month. The 22-year-old will stay at Chelsea. His contract will expire at Chelsea until the summer of 2030.

Badiashile has made 16 appearances for Chelsea in the past 12 months. He has two goals and one assist in that time. He scored on his first appearance of the season against Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Cup.

The 22-year-old has since completed the full 90 minutes in Premier League meetings with Brighton, Newcastle United, Everton and Sheffield United.
