Levi Colwill’s new six-year contract with Chelsea has been officially announced by the club, with an additional year’s option

After a brilliant loan season at Brighton & Hove Albion last season, the 20-year-old has become one of the nation’s most sought-after defenders.

Colwill was wanted by the Seagulls and Liverpool on a permanent transfer from Chelsea, but the Blues were never eager to let him go.

Following an earlier this week agreement, Colwill has now committed his long-term future to Chelsea by extending his contract until 2029, according to a statement from the club. Chelsea Football Club announced in a statement that Levi Colwill has signed a new seven-year contract worth a total of six years, with an option for one additional year.

Colwill, a graduate of Chelsea’s academy who began training there at the age of eight, has made a name for himself as one of the best young central defenders in European football. This summer, he assisted England in winning the European Under-21 Championship. The 20-year-old has continued to play for Stamford Bridge under head coach Mauricio Pochettino after making appearances during the preseason.

It’s always been an easy choice, according to Colwill. Chelsea has been all I’ve known as I’ve grown up. The manager assured me and gave me the trust I needed when we chatted. He has talked to me as a person, not just a player. It really has made a difference.
