Jose Mourinho slams Chelsea for mismanaging Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku is expected to join Roma on a season-long deal.

The Blues have agreed a season-long loan deal for the Belgian striker and Roma will be paying £8m for his services.

Roma officials Ryan Friedkin and Tiago Pinto flew to London to finalise a deal to bring the 30-year-old to the Italian capital.

He still has three years left on his Blues contract but it’s unlikely he will continue at Stamford Bridge.

After spending the last season on loan, the striker was keen to return to Italy and decided to join Roma as he could reunite with his former manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager explained how the forward is mismanaged by Chelsea.

“[In his first spell] at Chelsea, he was still a kid. At Manchester United, he was still developing. At Inter he became the top man,” Mourinho told The Times in June last year.

“He became loved – a big love from the supporters, love from teammates, great relations with the coach. He’s a big guy, physically so strong, but there is also a kid inside who needs that love, needs that support, needs to feel important.”
