Ian Maatsen makes admission over his Chelsea future.

The Chelsea defender admits that he may be forced to make a difficult decision ahead of the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old full-back has struggled for minutes this campaign and played only 106 minutes in the Premier League.

Maatsen has not started in the Premier League yet this term and has only featured a measly seven times off the bench.

He has failed to become a regular under manager Mauricio Pochettino after a hugely successful campaign with Burnley last year.

Man City are considered favourties to land the Dutchman for free next summer when his contract ends with Chelsea.

But Chelsea have reportedly triggered his contract by 12 months to 2025, and will want to tie him down to a long-term contract.

“I still think it’s possible to play more at Chelsea,” Maatsen told AD.

“Accepting [you won’t play] is difficult, as a young boy you always want more. I get confidence from the manager’s words and am ready when the opportunity comes.

“Meanwhile, I have to keep all options open. Maybe I’ll have to make a difficult decision later on, but then Chelsea will also let me know.”
