Chelsea record third home defeat as Rudiger misses out

Chelsea have now lost three consecutive home games

The Blues haven’t had a losing record since 1993.Before tonight’s 4-2 loss to Arsenal, the Blues allowed four goals against Brentford and three to Real Madrid in the Champions League. You’d be worried about Chelsea’s form, and even their entire season, based just on their home performances.

The dramatic away win in Madrid, the strong performance against Crystal Palace, and the 6-0 thrashing of Southampton all add to the confusion.

It’s difficult to comprehend how they can be surrendering ludicrous goals at home after they looked so good in other games. The changes tonight didn’t help, but as manager Thomas Tuchel pointed out, two of those losses occurred when vital players like Antonio Rudiger were on the field.

The defender was not even on the bench, while Malang Sarr and Andreas Christensen are on the field with Azpi.
It’s possible that Rudiger is just resting, as Silva was for the game against Crystal Palace last weekend, but it’s also possible that the German international is one of the players with “knocks” mentioned by Thomas Tuchel in the press conference ahead of this game.

In any event, it doesn’t appear to be a catastrophic injury, but the Blues want to know whether it’s something that will hurt them in the future.
