Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma hopes to stay at the club but he is still entertaining the possibility of moving from Stamford Bridge.

Zouma joined Chelsea from Saint-Etienne in 2014 on a transfer fee of £12 million. However, he couldn’t establish himself as a regular in his first three seasons and was loaned off to Stoke City in the 2017/18 season.

The defender was a regular for Stoke in the 2017/18 season but could not prevent the club from avoiding relegation.

Last season, he was loaned off to Everton and made 36 appearances for the Toffees, scoring twice and assisting as many times.

Following the end of his loan spell at Everton, the club wanted to sign Zouma but Frank Lampard said that he has a role for the Frenchman at Stamford Bridge. Lampard said: “I want him here, simple as that. I want him to be happy. If he competes and plays well this season, he plays.”

Zouma expressed his pleasure at Lampard wanting him to stay at Stamford Bridge but has not entirely ruled out a move away from the London club.

The 24-year old said: I’m happy with what the manager said about me. That means he is seeing the work I’m doing and I’m very pleased with that. WI’m happy with what the manager said about me. That means he is seeing the work I’m doing and I’m very pleased with that.

I enjoyed my time at Everton but I’m a Chelsea player and we’ll see what will happen now in the future. I think it will be here at Chelsea. This is a chance for me. I went out on loan last season but I’m a Chelsea player and I want to do well to get my chance and be here.”

Chelsea currently have the likes of David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen at centre-back and Zouma feels that it will be difficult for Lampard to choose the two players he wants at that position. The Frenchman said: “There is a lot of quality here. It depends on the manager. He can only play with two centre-backs. He has to make the choice but he is lucky because he has good players. It will be hard for him to make that choice but that is what we’re here for.”

Zouma has featured in all of Chelsea’s pre-season matches so far and could also feature in today’s match against Barcelona
