Frank Lampard is not ready to sell Kurt Zouma to Everton despite rumours of a transfer request being filled by the player.
The new Chelsea boss suffered his first defeat with the team last night, against Kawasaki. The Blues looked more sluggish than ever as Lampard’s men conceded a late goal from Leandro Damaio.
Zouma, who took part in the match is being heavily pursued by the Toffees after his previous season loan spell with them. Lampard made it clear to everyone that the 24-year-old was not for sale.
“Kurt is a very good defender, a very good player, a professional and I want him here, simple as that,” the 41-year-old stated. “We are competitive with the centre backs we have, and he had a very good season at Everton. I understand why they want him. But he’s a Chelsea player and I want him. I want him to be happy. He’s working really hard and if he competes and plays well, he plays.”
Chelsea created few chances against the fully-fit J League champions with Pedro, Michy Batshuayi and Oliver Giroud coming close to scoring. Lampard continued, “We want to win, but ten days into pre-season having flown into Japan only three days ago brings up a lot of difficulties for us physically.”
Chelsea are set to face Barcelona tomorrow, Tuesday, 23 May and then Reading on Sunday.
