Ashley Cole Advises Lampard On How To Best Use Havertz

Ashley Cole has compared Kai Havertz to Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino.

Havertz has become one of the biggest signings Chelsea has undertaken this summer and his skills are apparently similar to Firmino’s. What are the similarities, you say? According to Cole, Havertz, much like Firmino, is good at bringing the squad together to play as a unified team.

“I see him as a Firmino-type player where he knits it together,” Cole said on BT Sport, via Football London.

“So you want him playing central, you want him in these positions.

“He’s got spacial awareness where he can bring players into the game.

Cole has further advised Lampard to play Havertz in the same position as Firmino, which is where Havertz’s skills can be best harvested for the upcoming match.

With that position, Havertz can still be in a place to provide multiple assists, creating opportunities for his squad.

“Frank played him off the right in this game [3-1 win over Brighton] where he was largely ineffectual and this [heatmap] highlights it brilliantly.

“When you have a player of his quality, anytime he receives the ball, anyone of those positions he can hurt you.

“When you play in this position you have to understand how to make space.

“I think he will score lots of goals from this position.

“Players are going to love playing with him, like how [Liverpool] players love playing with Firmino.

“He’s such an exciting player and I feel his impact on this Chelsea team will not just be goals and assists, but bringing the best out of the likes of [Christian] Pulisic, [Mason] Mount, Callum [Hudson-Odoi] and Tammy [Abraham] because he can knit it together.”
