Former Chelsea assistant coach and Chelsea great Gianfranco Zola has warned Kurt Zouma to pull up his socks or risk losing place to Antonio Rudiger.

Rudiger is anyway expected to be Chelsea’s first choice defender but is currently recovering from a medical injury. Zola expects Rudiger to win back his spor rather easily once the German is back given Zouma’s defensive frailty.

“Certainly Rudiger has got more experience. I think he has a better understanding with Christensen. ‘I believe if they want to play out from the back, Rudiger and Christensen will be more suitable.’

Speaking about the match, Zola echoed Lampard’s opinion. The Italian felt Chelsea were unlucky to have come back from Old Trafford with a 4-0 scoreline.

‘I totally think the score was very unfair because they deserved something more,’ said Zola ‘There were a lot of positive things going forward and in the build-up but they will have to improve more defensively. ‘You have to be balanced in the Premier League, it’s not enough creating chances, hitting two posts and then conceding so many counters and so many goals. ‘That is something that will have to be addressed and sorted out.’
