A lot of news has flared up regarding Willian and his exit from Chelsea lately, with several clubs like Bayern Munich interested in him.
The 31-year old winger’s contract with Chelsea is coming to an end by the finish of the season – and currently he only has 6 months left on the deal. He has requested the Blues for a three-year deal. However, Chelsea agreed to grant him a two-year deal.
However, Willian wasn’t happy with two years. He is looking for three and the thing is, several other clubs across Europe are ready to sign him for three years. The winger has delivered for 6 and half year for Chelsea, ever since he was signed back in 2013. He has played creatively being a winger, even serving in the midfield from time to time. There’s no question that he is an invaluable asset to Chelsea.
Which is exactly why Frank Lampard is desperate to keep him back with the Blues and not let him leave yet. It is likely that talks of contracts have begun with several clubs through Willian’s agent already. Lampard is likely to pull out all stops when it comes to securing a three year contract with Willian, according to transfer expert Duncan Castles.
Willian has appeared in 346 matches and scored 58 goals for Chelsea across the span of 7 years.
“Willian wants to stay at Chelsea, wants to stay in London, his family are happy there,” Castles said on the Transfer Window podcast.
“He’s been negotiating with Chelsea, he’s had an offer from them for a one-year contract extension with a one-year option, with reasonably easily triggers involved, to turn it into a two-year deal, but that is not sufficient for him.
The reason why Chelsea is hesitant to sign three years with him is because he is over the age of 30. In the football world, getting a contract extension with a club at all over 30, is a sign that the club highly values the player.
“Chelsea offered me two, I demanded three, and it stopped there. There’s nothing much,” the 31-year old winger had stated on Sunday.
