Maurizio Sarri has said that Giroud will stay at Chelsea next season as he has spoken to the club about the striker’s future already.

Responding to Giroud’s claims he is unsure about his future, Sarri told Sky Sports News: “He is sure, because the club has an option for another year, another season. I spoke to the club two days ago and we agreed to exercise the option. So, he will remain.”

Giroud had hit out at his lack of game time yesterday and warned he could leave.

I have no clue about that now. I have to meet Marina. I’m happy to be here – I may be 32 and have won the World Cup but I don’t want to retire – but I’m not satisfied with second choice. I’m not happy to play the second role.

“When you are a competitor, when you’ve been through difficulties all through your career, you need to keep that frustration inside you and transform it into positive energy on the pitch.

“I’m not happy to play the second role. That’s why I said, next year, I will need to have a more important role to play in the team.”
