Chelsea have announced that Ruben Loftus-Cheek has signed a new contract with the club that will keep him at Stamford Bridge till 2024.

After spending the 2017/18 season on loan at Crystal Palace, Loftus-Cheek found more game time at Chelsea during the 2018/19 season. The midfielder made 40 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 5 assists.

Unfortunately due to injury, Loftus-Cheek couldn’t make more appearances till the end of the season.

Upon signing a new contract, Loftus-Cheel said, I’m really happy and pleased that I get to stay here for another five years. It’s the place where I’ve grown up playing and hopefully I’ll be playing here for a lot longer.

“At eight or nine years old, of course you never think you’ll be here for so long because you just want to enjoy yourself and play with your friends. When I look back and see how the hard work has paid off, it’s a good feeling. That only makes me want to work harder to achieve more in the future.

“I hope to win a lot more trophies with the team and personally it’s just about trying to do as well as I can and work hard to be a key player for Chelsea.”

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said, “We see Ruben as an important part of the squad for many years to come and we are very pleased he also considers his future to be with Chelsea. He is proof of the fantastic work being done in the Chelsea Academy and in recent seasons has developed into a first-team regular and an England international. Under Frank Lampard’s leadership, we believe he will be a key player for Chelsea and we look forward to welcoming him back once he has recovered from his injury.”

Loftus-Cheek did not have it easy towards the start of the season as then-manager Maurizio Sarri mainly used him for Cup and Europa League games. However, at the turn of the year, Loftus-Cheek started getting more appearances in the Premier League and played in all of Chelsea’s final 15 Premier League matches.

The 22-year old is undoubtedly one of the finest young talents in England and there’s no doubt that he will get even better with time. Loftus-Cheek penning a new contract will certainly be beneficial for Chelsea as they can’t sign new players and will have to do with the players they have now.
