OFFICIAL Olivier Giroud And Thiago Silva To Remain At Chelsea Until 2022

Chelsea extended the contracts of Thiago Silva and Olivier Giroud on Thursday.

Both veteran players are to be involved in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2021/22 season.

After a successful debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, many expected to see Silva continue his Chelsea journey. But Giroud came as a bit of surprise. The Frenchman was linked with a potential exit for the fifth time now.

He hardly featured all season under either Frank Lampard or Thomas Tuchel. To his credit, the 34-year-old delivered whenever called upon and was crucial to Chelsea grabbing their second Champions League trophy.

Chelsea technical director, Marina Granovskaia said: “Olivier has been such a crucial part of so many big moments for this club, from his contribution to our FA Cup victory in 2018 to scoring 11 goals on the way to winning the Europa League in 2019.

“He has continued to score significant goals, and we will never forget his effort against Atletico Madrid on the way to winning the Champions League this season.

“With so much to still to play for, there was only one decision we could make when we exercised the option to extend his contract back in April.”
