Juventus Still Hold An Interest In Jorginho But Chelsea Want €50m

Chelsea have set an asking price of €50 million for their Italian midfielder, Jorginho.

The 29-year-old does not seem to fit into Frank Lampard’s long-term plans with Hakim Ziyech signed earlier and Kai Havertz tipped to come in soon enough.

Jorginho also has the threat of Billy Gilmour coming up through the ranks, who has impressed Lampard every time he has stepped onto the pitch. If it were not for a season-ending injury, the teenage wonderkid could have trumped Jorginho to a starting spot on several occasions.

If reports from Italian media are to be believed, Maurizio Sarri still looks at Jorginho favourably. After all, it was the 61-year-old who had brought Jorginho to London from Napoli. Chelsea were quick to pull the trigger for the midfielder but he never really settled into life at the Bridge. Drawing in criticisms early on and some of his weaknesses getting exposed, did not play out too well over the past two seasons.

If anything, Lampard could possibly sell Jorginho and raise funds for more necessary signings. The Italian international still has a contract until June 2023 with the Blues. Juventus cannot expect to sign him out on a bargain deal since Chelsea still holds the upper hand. A neat €50 million fee would be ideal in all scenarios for Chelsea. They got two years of service out of the veteran and nearly recouped their entire investment on an ageing player.
