Ian Wright - Timo Werner Too Lazy With His Runs

Timo Werner has received criticism for his work off the ball at Chelsea.

Arsenal great and former striker, Ian Wright outlined exactly where the German has been falling short.

Werner has recently notched up his goal involvements under Thomas Tuchel. His end product has been poor but his overall contribution has been far from it. Fans have grown optimistic after watching Werner’s movement to create space and deliveries into the box.

“I think Timo Werner is having a good season,” Wright said during BBC’s Match of the Day.

“Coming to Chelsea with that pressure of scoring goals and then missing chances…You need to look at the runs he makes. Here he needs to get back onside. He doesn’t get onside.

“He’s got so much space. For me that’s just lazy, it’s lazy work. He’s running straight offside. Once he sorts that out, he will get more chances, then he will need to be more clinical.”

Wright was not overly critical of Werner and did pose a fair point. The latter’s best trait is his speed which he should use more often to blast past opponents and break defensive lines. Hopefully, he starts to find his rhythm again and gets back to scoring form.
