Ian Maatsen joined Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the season.

The academy graduate made only 15 appearances for the Blues across all competitions but is yet to register a goal or assist for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this term.

The 21-year-old defender made only one start against Crystal Palace in December last year.

Maatsen had an impressive start to his loan spell at Germany and Dortmund are keen to sign the defender on a permanent deal in the summer.

This is according to pundit Fabrizio Romano who believes Maatsen would be let go in the summer.

Romano said: “Let me start by mentioning a player who could really leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window – he already left on loan in January and is doing very well – Ian Maatsen.”

“What they want to do at Borussia Dortmund is to wait until the end of the season and then decide what to do. It’s a loan deal [with] no buy option included, but when Ian Maatsen signed a new contract at Chelsea, before joining Borussia Dortmund, there was a release clause [added] and it’s going to be valid this summer,” Romano added.
