According to reports, former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has agreed terms with Inter Milan to become their new manager. Conte will replace Luciano Spalletti.
Inter Milan are not too pleased with how things have gone under Spalletti. The Nerazzurri were third for most of the season before slipping to 4th position. Inter could well end the season in 5th position if they lose their final game to Empoli and arch-rivals AC Milan beat SPAL.
Many clubs were interested in signing Conte including Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich. However, it seems that Conte will eventually go back to his native Italy. Conte was fired by Chelsea last summer after failing to secure a top-4 finish in the Premier League.
The 49-year old worked with Inter CEO for Sport Giuseppe Marotta during his time at Juventus. Provided Conte comes to Inter Milan, this will be his first club managerial assignment in Italy since 2014. Conte previously managed Juventus from 2011-2014. He led the Bianconeri to three successive Serie A titles and two successive Coppa Italia titles. Conte left Juve to manage the Italy national team.
Given Conte’s managerial record in the Serie A, Inter Milan will certainly benefit his appointment if it happens.
