Emerson Palmieri has been enjoying his stay at Lyon.
The defender has been loaned out to French club Lyon for the 2021/22 season and Thomas Tuchel wants him back at Chelsea this January window.
Chelsea lost Ben Chilwell to a long-term injury and is expected to remain out for the remainder of the season.
Thomas Tuchel recalled the defender to deal with the situation in their left-back position.
Tuchel said: “We know Emi, we appreciate him as a player and person in general. He had such a huge influence although he did not have a lot of minutes last season.
“He is a top guy, top professional and he is still a Chelsea player. It is not only what I wish for. We need to evaluate the situation. We are looking into it on this position. Emi is one of the options. I will not comment further.”
Palmieri explains why he refused to come back to Chelsea this January window.
The Italian defender said: “I did not return to Chelsea because I promised Juninho (Lyon’s sporting director) that I would stay for a season. I am a man of my word.
“I like being in Lyon, I want to be here. For next season, hard to say because depends on the clubs but I’m happy here.”
