Conor Gallagher was included in the England World Cup squad travelling to Qatar.

The 22-year-old was left out of the Nations League squad but he continued to play for the U-21s and improved under new Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

England manager Gareth Southgate explains his decision to include the 22-year-old midfielder in the 26-man World Cup squad.

Southgate explained: “We were really pleased with how he responded at being out of our squad.

“He went into the Under-21s and performed really well. His mentality was excellent. It is a good example that if you approach it in that way that there’s always a route back with us.

“He is fantastic at pressing the ball. I think there are going to be moments in these games where we are going to need different attributes. He is not as experienced with us as some of the others. But he has an impact in games.

“He has got a goal threat. He, when you talk about midfielders, do they score goals, stop goals and create goals. He does a bit of all of that actually.“

PSG planning to sign Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante on free transfer

PSG planning to sign Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante on free transfer

PSG could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for Kante’s signing.

Paris Saint-Germain are eyeing a move for Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante on a free transfer next summer, reports BILD journalist Christian Falk.

Doubts linger over the Frenchman’s future at Stamford Bridge, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2023.

The 31-year-old has been sidelined since August due to a hamstring injury, and he will miss the World Cup 2022 in Qatar this month.

Les Parisiens are said to be keeping tabs on the former Leicester midfielder’s situation ahead of a potential free transfer next summer.

Ligue 1 giants revamped their midfield in the summer transfer window with the additions of Fabian Ruiz, Renato Sanches, Vitinha and Carlos Soler.

Football director Luis Campos is looking to add more solidity by signing Kante.

But, PSG could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for Kante’s signing, with Antonio Conte interested in a reunion with the 31-year-old.

Conte wants to replicate the successful Chelsea partnership with Kante at Spurs, with the pair winning the Premier League title in the 2016/17 season.

Graham Potter’s side will travel to Tyneside on the back of five domestic games without a win.

Graham Potter has tasked Chelsea with getting their season back on track in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Newcastle.

The North London club found the exit door from the Carabao Cup after a 2-0 defeat against Manchester City, as second-half goals from Riyad Mahrez and Julián Álvarez helped the hosts through at Etihad.

Despite the defeat, the Chelsea manager saw enough from his experimental 3-4-3 line-up to offer encouragement for the future.

“We’re concerned when we don’t get the results we want,” Potter said afterwards, per club media.

“Our performances have not been what we want either in the last couple of games. Tonight was a big step in terms of how we want to play, and we can get confidence from that.

“It’s a big game at Newcastle, 5.30 [pm] on the TV, it’ll be a fantastic atmosphere. They’re doing really well, so it’ll be a tough game, but we have to try and go there and get the three points.”

Chelsea will travel to Tyneside on the back of five domestic games without a win.

The Magpies have been one of the surprise packages of the season thus far. Eddie Howe’s men sit in third spot, four places and six points clear of this weekend’s visitors.

Reece James ‘devastated’ after World Cup exclusion.

The defender’s World Cup dream seems to be over after Gareth Southgate didn’t include the right-back in his final squad.

He was sidelined with a knee injury he picked up in October against AC Milan in the Champions League.

The 22-year-old Chelsea defender who has 15 caps for England was devastated to not get included in the 26-man squad which will be announced on Thursday.

This puts Gareth Southgate with a rather depleted squad just before the World Cup commences next week.

“The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turn around to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible,” James said.

“I’ve worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going and I truly believed I could help the team.

“I appreciate there was risk on both sides but it was one I was willing to take. Good luck to the boys. I’ll be back soon. Stay safe and sending love.”

Ray Parlour slams Chelsea boss Graham Potter for praising Arsenal

Parlour believes the Chelsea-Arsenal rivalry does not need Graham Potter praising the rival club.

Speaking on Talksport Radio (h/t Metro), former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has slammed Chelsea boss Graham Potter for praising Arsenal after Sunday’s game.

Chelsea lost to Mikel Arteta’s side 1-0 at Stamford Bridge at the weekend. Speaking to the media after the match, Potter was complimentary of Arsenal, classed them as the ‘better team’ and ended by claiming that Mikel Arteta’s men deserved the win.

Anyone who watched that game would probably agree with what Chelsea’s boss said. The home side were disappointing in everything they did on the pitch. They were outplayed in every facet of the game.

But, Parlour thinks that is too much respect here as he believes the Chelsea-Arsenal rivalry does not need Potter praising the rival club. Here’s what he exactly said (h/t Metro):

“I listened to the interview after, all he did was talk about Arsenal and how good they are. He can’t do that. You’re at Chelsea. This is Arsenal vs Chelsea. Chelsea have won multiple trophies over the years, the standards are so high.“That’s the problem you’ve got. You can’t be coming out and praising the other team. They didn’t lay a glove on Arsenal.”

As much as the ego side of things needs to take over to keep the flame alive of this London rivalry, Potter is just trying to be honest about his team’s situation and he does not see any harm in praising the opposition.

The World Cup is perhaps the right time for Potter to reassess his first two months in charge of Chelsea, try and see what has been working for the team and devise new methods to add goals to this team. They have been struggling to do the latter with consistency for some time now.

Pep Guardiola has urged Chelsea to give Potter significant time to prove himself.

Graham Potter had a bright start to his Chelsea career going unbeaten in his first nine matches in all competitions.

His first defeat as Chelsea manager came against his former club Brighton where they were beaten 4-1 by the Seagulls.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola rates Potter for the job he has done at Brighton for the past few seasons and hopes Chelsea gives him time to succeed at Stamford Bridge.

The City boss said: “I’m not the right person to say that because it’s not my business. But if Chelsea accepts my humble advice, with no intention, give him time and he will do well.”

“No one has success from day one or two, I have a lot of admiration for his work.

“What he did at Brighton was beyond exceptional and I’m pretty sure with time he will do a good job, I don’t have any doubts.

“He is one of the best managers from my point of view, we have in this league.”

Sterling deserves good reception from City fans, says Guardiola

Sterling deserves good reception from City fans, says Guardiola

Guardiola said he had a good relationship with Raheem Sterling.

Pep Guardiola admits Raheem Sterling “has to” get a good reception when he returns to Manchester City.

England international played for the Cityzens for seven seasons, scoring 131 goals in 339 appearances and helping them win a glut of silverware, before moving on to Chelsea in July.

The two clubs will lock horns at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday in the third round of the Carabao Cup, and when asked if he thought Sterling would get a good reception, City boss Guardiola told a press conference: “I hope so, I definitely hope so.

“Always I like the clubs when they welcome the guys that have been here many years and been a key figure, an important role in our team in all these years.

“Maybe you forget, what happened in the last months, but that is not the reality of what happened in a period of six, seven years he was here.

“He deserves (a good reception), of course. Of course we want to beat them, but of course he has to get a good reception. I think in England the people appreciate that.”

Since Graham Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea boss on September 8, Sterling has scored only twice, and not at all in the Premier League.

Guardiola was asked for his thoughts on Sterling’s Chelsea form, and said: “I watched a few games. But it doesn’t matter what he’s playing or doing, the opinion of him, all of you know it. I wish him all the best, and hopefully he’s happy there.”

Guardiola said he had a good relationship with the 27-year-old, adding: “We worked six years together, every year, every day, being together, working, playing a lot of games.

“Maybe the most important game we played, the final of the Champions League, he was there. So if he’s happy, we’re happy.”

“If Chelsea accept my humble advice, give him time, and he will do well,” Guardiola said.

“He needs time, everyone needs time. No one has success from day one.

“I have a lot of admiration for his work, what he has done with Brighton is beyond exceptional. I’m pretty sure, with time, he will do a good job. I don’t have any doubts.

“He is one of the best managers, from my point of view, that we have in this league.”

Graham Potter still unsure about Reece James’ return

Reece James’ recovery from injury is still a question for Potter.

The Chelsea defender suffered a knee injury in a game against AC Milan last month.

It was speculated that he would miss the World Cup but the defender made steady progress to recovery in time for Gareth Southgate’s travelling squad to Qatar.

But Chelsea manager Graham Potter is still unsure about James’ potential return from injury.

‘Reece was outside today (Tuesday) having a little jog, but there is nothing to report in terms of anything else,’ Potter said.

‘There is no timeframe [to return]. It is just how he responds. We don’t want to rush anything, and I certainly don’t want to put any timescales on it. That is for him, the doctors, and physios.’

The defender expressed his ambitions to participate in the World Cup.

‘I need to keep working hard over the next few weeks and see where I am on call-up day,’ he said.

‘I will try and not rule myself out. It is still slow and in the early stages. I have been in rehab for two weeks, so I am still taking it day-by-day.

‘It is going to be very tough. It is an injury which could take a long time and it came at an awkward period but I am trying my best and hopefully it is possible and if it is not, I know I tried everything.’

Chelsea block Omari Hutchinson’s Jamaica call-up ahead of EFL Cup tie

Hutchinson is still waiting to make his first-team debut under Graham Potter.

Chelsea have reportedly told Omari Hutchinson not to join Jamaica for their international friendly with Cameroon ahead of EFL Cup third-round game with Manchester City.

The Jamaica international has shone at youth level for the Blues since making the decision to swap the Emirates Stadium for Stamford Bridge in the summer.

The former Arsenal man has netted six goals and registered six assists in 14 games for Chelsea’s Under-21s, including five goals and four assists from 11 Premier League 2 appearances.

Hutchinson is still waiting to make his first-team debut under Graham Potter. He was on the bench for their 4-1 defeat to Brighton last month.

Hutchinson’s senior debut for the West London club may not be too far away. The 19-year-old is due to represent Jamaica against Cameroon on Wednesday, but The Athletic states that Chelsea have told him not to accept the invitation.

The report adds that Hutchinson will therefore be in contention to make his first senior appearance for Chelsea when they travel to the Etihad for the third round of the EFL Cup against Man City.

Potter and Pep Guardiola are both expected to name much-changed XIs for the match, and there is a possibility that Hutchinson will be involved in some capacity.

Chelsea’s Under-21s manager Mark Robinson spoke to The Athletic about Hutchinson last month, and he believes that the attacker’s “humble” and “talented” character is emerging following some nervy early performances.

“Omari has been fantastic. When you are a young player and you make that change of club, there is a lot of pressure on you. When he first came in, he probably felt that pressure, the big expectations on him moving from Arsenal and coming across to Chelsea,” Robinson said.

“I think, in his early performances, there was that pressure. But as time has gone on, you are seeing him relaxing more and more and he is really starting to show the player he is going to be.

“I am really pleased with him. For us as a club, it’s just a case of helping him overcome that expectancy and pressure when things aren’t quite coming off for him.

“I think we have done that and he will agree we have done that well. We are now starting to see what a talented lad he is. We have a really good relationship. We talk regularly. He is just focused on where he wants to go and how he is going to get there. He is a real humble character. He is great to work with.”
