Chelsea are reportedly targeting a move for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

The 21 year old midfielder has played for Lyon and represented France in the U-21 level. He has starred for both teams and is regarded highly in Ligue 1. He recently impressed against Juventus in the round of 16 Champions League match and was instrumental in helping Lyon beat Juventus 1-0 at Turin.

Lampard is trying to build a very young Chelsea team at Stamford Bridge and after missing out on signing players in the last two windows, he is sure to get a decent backing from the board this summer.

Chelsea have already wrapped up a deal for Ajax star Hakim Ziyech worth £33.7m and are now believed to be in the race for Aouar with Juventus, Liverpool and Manchester United. The Blues are set to offer £43m.

The current options Chelsea have in midfield are Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante. However, Lampard wants a midfielder who is more adapt at passing and controlling midfield, something Jorginho has fallen short of on a consistent basis.

Moreover, at 21 years of age, Aouar has a huge potential ahead of him and would be ideal for a Chelsea team where most first team players are below the age of 23.
