Monchengladbach defender Elvedi has been shortlisted as the potential January option

Chelsea are now considering Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi as a potential January signing. He could be an ideal replacement for Reece James.

James had suffered another significant hamstring injury during last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Everton. He will be out until February due to injury.

Mauricio Pochettino desperately needs a temporary option to boost his squad for the upcoming crucial games. Chelsea have lost three of the last four games in the Premier League. They are now 12th in the top-flight table.

As per reports of TEAMtalk, Monchengladbach defender Elvedi has been shortlisted as the potential January option. The Switzerland international was linked with Wolves.

Elvedi’s contract will expire in a year and an extension was penned in September to take him to the end of the 2026-27 campaign. He made 10 starts and two substitute appearances in a team that occupies 10th position in the Bundesliga table.

Elvedi can play at a right-back or centre-back. Chelsea are also interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah. Monchengladbach would be looking for £30m if Chelsea makes a bid for a player.
