Chelsea recalls Cesare Casadei from Leicester City loan

Chelsea has decided to return 21-year-old midfielder Cesare Casadei from his loan spell at Leicester City. The decision comes as Mauricio Pochettino seeks to improve his midfield options for the rest of the season.

Casadei, who signed for Inter for an initial £12 million in 2022, was loaned out to Reading for the second part of the previous season before joining Championship club Leicester for the 2023/24 season.

Despite making 25 appearances in all competitions for Leicester, Casadei’s time with the club was met with mixed reactions from supporters.

Manager Enzo Maresca acknowledged the young Italian’s potential, stating, “Every game he plays, he has chances. Because of his age, he needs to become a little more clinical, but he’s a very, very good player.”

Chelsea’s decision to recall Casadei arises from injuries to midfielders Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu, which left Pochettino with few senior options in the middle of the park. The move shows the Blues’ dedication to use their young players in times of necessity.

While Casadei is expected to stay at Chelsea for the remainder of the season, Andrey Santos’ destiny remains uncertain after his loan with Nottingham Forest was terminated after only seven minutes of Premier League action.

The Brazilian is back training with Chelsea, and loan moves to Premier League and Championship clubs are still being considered. The mid-season surprises continue as Chelsea faces the campaign’s hurdles.
