Chelsea are reportedly ready to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

The Blues currently have Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero as the two senior first team goalkeepers. Caballero is close to retirement and not first team quality while Kepa has shown an extended run of poor form this season.

The former Athletico Bilbao custodian, Kepa, was signed by Chelsea back in 2018 as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois for a world record fee of £71.5 million.

However, Kepa has failed to live up to his standard and Chelsea have had to replace him in goal with Caballero for certain high-profile matches, which has led to the club looking for other top class goalkeepers.

The names doing the rounds at Chelsea were Ajax’s Cameroonian star Onana and AC Milan’s 21 year old goalkeeping star Donnarumma. However, there are question marks over Onana and Donnarumma is set to command a price well above £100 million given his age and the fact that teams like Real Madrid, Juventus and PSG want him.

Hence, there are new reports suggesting that Chelsea are instead interested in Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, the 27 year old Barcelona goalkeeper.

Ter-Stegen depite being one of the finest goalkeepers in the world does not have the flash and star power of the likes of Ederson and Courtois and hence is likely to go under the radar for most big teams. Moreover, it is believed he is unsettled at Barcelona with Nou Camp leader Lionel Messi moving to sell the £90 million rated German shot stopper in order to make funds available to bring back Neymar from PSG for £198 million.

This has given Chelsea hope to stay in the wings and watch patienty as to how the situation can arise. They will look to move on Kepa to another club and bring in Ter-Stegen if things go their way.
