Borussia Dortmund interested in signing Ian Maatsen from Chelsea

Borussia Dortmund has joined the race for Chelsea outcast Ian Maatsen.

The young defender was superb for the West London giants during the pre-season campaign but Mauricio Pochettino has not used the youngster regularly for the Blues.

He spent the last season on loan at Burnley helping Vincent Kompany’s side win promotion to the Premier League.

Chelsea activated a one-year contract extension on the defender’s contract which is now to expire in 2025.

Maatsen has been handed only two starting opportunities in the top-flight which has opened the door for a potential departure in the January transfer window.

West Ham and Borussia Dortmund are considered favourties to land the Dutchman for free next summer when his contract ends with Chelsea.

But the German club are keen to sign the defender permanently or on loan, Maatsen himself wouldn’t mind moving to Germany to gain more minutes and develop his game under Edin Terzić.

West Ham are also in the market for a new left-back and expressed an interest in the Chelsea outcast.

The Blues must offload a few players to maintain their line with the FFP regulations as they spent a huge sum in the last transfer window.
