Thomas Tuchel delivers key injury update ahead of UEFA Champions League final.

The Blues coach has delivered some positive fitness update on goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and N’Golo Kante ahead of their Champions League final clash against Manchester City.

Kante was subbed off in the Leicester City game with a hamstring niggle and missed the final Premier League final game against Aston Villa.

Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy collided with the post and injured his ribs against Villa and was subbed at half-time.

“Edou, maybe the update is we still have hope. He has a chance of training on Wednesday,” Tuchel said ahead of the final at Porto.

“He has made huge improvement in the management of pain. Further update on Wednesday but we hope to have him back in training.

“Edou will play if he is fit. We will try on Wednesday, if not then we will try on Thursday, if not then we will try on Friday. If he cannot make it then we have a strong guy on the bench with Kepa. The images don’t show that the injury is too serious. Every hour and day counts.”

“Nothing has changed”, Tuchel said on Kante’s hamstring concern.

“We will just put him in training when the game starts on Saturday and not speak to doctors and physios or changing tactics. Sounds good to me.”
