Thomas Tuchel explains what dissapointed him at Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel wants five substitutions in the Premier League.

The German coach admits that it has been difficult to make the entire squad happy since taking charge of Chelsea at the end of January.

So far he used 19 outfield players from the Blues squad and has never named the same XI in back-to-back matches.

The Blues are unbeaten in 11 games under Thomas Tuchel which helped them grab the top four spot in the league table.

“The squad is a perfect size. Big, big credit for our physical and medical department that we can choose from so many players and that we are lucky with not having injuries for too long and for too many players. We have the perfect size of the squad,” said Tuchel.

“The only thing that I’m missing is the possibility of five substitutes so I can use more players. For many years it has been a concern of mine. For many, many years I’ve said we have to have the possibility to use more of our players.

“If ten [outfield] players start and I can only substitute three, I have so many players that are not happy, that I can’t reward. I was pushing for that [five substitutes] at any club where I was coaching. So it’s not just now I’m at a big club.

“This is the only regret that I have because I have players that I would normally like to reward for their effort and attitude. But the size of the squad is actually perfect.”
