Mauricio Pochettino has issued a fresh update on Christopher Nkunku.

The French striker joined the Blues in a £52m deal from RB Leipzig this summer and endured a knee injury during the club’s pre-season games.

Chelsea has definitely struggled in his absence and manager Mauricio Pochettino wishes the former RB Leipzig star could be their saviour this season.

Nkunku has made four appearances for the Blues since his return from injury after missing the first-half of the campaign.

The 26-year-old was not fit enough to start Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Preston.

The Chelsea boss revealed that Nkunku is dealing with a fresh hip injury and was unsure about his return.

“It’s not related to his old injury, it’s a different problem,” Pochettino said. “A small issue in his hip, not in his knee, we are cautious with him because it is six months from his injury, and he was involved in few games. He won’t be involved tomorrow, we will see for Saturday. We are not sure, we are going to be cautious.

“Hope it is not a long period. At the moment he is not training, he is doing recovery. Not a big issue.”
