Borussia Dortmund has reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen.

The academy graduate has struggled for minutes this campaign and played only 191 minutes in the Premier League.

Maatsen has made only 15 appearances for the Blues across all competitions but is yet to register a goal or assist for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this term.

The 21-year-old left-back made his only start against Crystal Palace on December 27 in the Premier League.

He spent the last season on loan at Burnley helping Vincent Kompany’s side win promotion to the Premier League.

West Ham and Borussia Dortmund are considered favourties to land the Dutchman this January even though Chelsea activated a one-year contract extension last year.

According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, defender Ian Maatsen has reached a verbal agreement with Dortmund over a potential move in the coming days.

The defender is inching closer to a mid-season move to the Signal Iduna Park which will be his fourth spell away from Stamford Bridge.

Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing the defender but doesn’t have the cash to sign Maatsen on a permanent deal due to the club’s financial position.
