England’s national team manager, Gareth Southgate, has called up Chelsea’s young star, Cole Palmer, to the senior squad. This surprising move comes just hours after the 21-year-old midfielder proved his skills on the field by scoring a spectacular last-minute equalizer against his former team, Manchester City.

Palmer was initially overlooked by Southgate for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia, but his outstanding performance has won him a late call-up. The Chelsea star’s 95th-minute penalty not only earned his team a valuable point, but it also drew the attention of the national team management, who was in need of replacements owing to injuries.

The absence of key players such as James Maddison and Jude Bellingham from the squad owing to injuries required Southgate to act quickly. Palmer has been given the opportunity to fill the void left by the injured players, along with former City teammate Rico Lewis.

Both youthful prospects, who have never been called up to the senior squad before, now have an excellent chance to make their international debut, especially given the strength of the impending opponents. England fans will be excited to see how these dynamic additions to the squad perform in the important Euro 2024 qualifiers.
