Fabrizio Romano updates on Thiago's situation at Chelsea

Thiago Silva expected to leave in the summer.

The veteran defender will prepare for a possible departure in the summer who has been a mainstay at Chelsea since his arrival in 2020.

His contract with the Blues expires in the summer and it’s unlikely Chelsea will offer him a contract extension.

The Brazilian defender is not at the peak of his powers any longer, even though he’s maintaining a high standard in the Premier League.

Silva’s approaching the end of his contract and will turn 40 next season.

Chelsea have relied on his expertise and experience in the backline, but the 39-year-old might have to find a new club in the coming season.

“Thiago Silva’s position in the Chelsea starting line up may now be in doubt after he missed the game against Aston Villa in the FA Cup, but I honestly don’t know about this situation or what it means for his place in the side for the rest of this season,” Romano said.

“It’s not a transfer story so it’s not really my area, it will depend on Mauricio Pochettino. But they clarified the situation days ago, so it seems to just be a technical decision now up to the coaching staff.”
