Chelsea wants Victor Osimhen: Fabrizio Romano confirms transfer talks

Renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea FC has entered the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Chelsea, currently 11th in the Premier League with 36 points, has failed to maintain consistency in their attacking approach this season. The London giants want to sign Osimhen in order to improve their offensive prowess.

Osimhen has been one of the players linked in recent months and Romano has now revealed that the Blues are definitely in the race and there has always been interest in signing the Nigerian star, he told Caught Offside: “Chelsea – I’m sure they’re in the race. The interest has always been there.”

“It was never a possibility to sign him in January, but it’s fair to say that Chelsea never entered into any concrete discussions for strikers in January because in the summer they expect different strikers to be available, and Osimhen is one of the most interesting options for sure.”

The 25-year-old Nigerian international has been in excellent form for Napoli, scoring 31 goals last season and helping his team win the Serie A title after a 30-year wait.

Despite losses due to injury and international obligations this season, Osimhen has 13 goals in 22 games, confirming his standing as one of the most sought-after strikers in European football.

Osimhen has signed a long-term contract with Napoli and has a release clause worth £111 million. However, opinions claim that he has a soft spot for Chelsea, with known striker Didier Drogba being his childhood idol.

It has been reported that Osimhen will prioritize a move to Stamford Bridge, with the Blues already in talks with his representatives.

Osimhen’s arrival would greatly improve Chelsea’s attacking lineup, providing an explosive combination of clinical finishing and aerial brilliance.

Should the deal go through, it might lead to the exit of underperforming strikers Armando Broja and David Datro Fofana.
